Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / The fire extinguisher incident
« on: January 27, 2004, 03:32:00 PM »
One day in New England in early 1988 there
was a terrible snow storm. The Straight
building was in Stoughton (south of Boston),
and I was a newcomer living with a host family in
New Hampshire.

Well the snow was so bad where we were that our
bus never came. There were only a handful of
people that rode the bus anyway. But on this
day we were fortunate enough to not have to go
to the building!!!

I wasn't there to see it, but my oldcomers host brother would later explain what happened.
Apparently a newcomer guy grabbed a fire extinguisher during exercies rap and just went nuts with it, spraying staff and kids and, I would
only imagine, made a run for it.

He was withdrawn not too long after. Again I
wasn't there to see it. But are there any other
stories of outbursts like this, in and out of the group setting?

Just curious.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / i feel _____ about ______ because...

i feel _____ about ______ because...
i feel upset, sad and isolated about the red sox because

they lost today. i feel hurt because they lost to the

stupid braves. i know that i have to use my first step and

accept that i'm powerless over the braves, and over the red

sox too.

i just feel so isolated, living so far away from boston. i feel lonly because nobody seems to understand. the braves won their world series back in 1995. it's just not fair that the red sox haven't won since 1918!!!

i'm going to set a couple of goals. one, i'm going to pull

for the mets tonight, and hopefully they'll beat the yankees and the standings won't change too much. two, i'm not going to watch the red sox when they play the braves anymore. i have to let it go, use my third step, and just accept that the braves are just the braves and there is nothing i can do about it. three, i'm going to get together with some red sox people and talk, use them as support. red sox people usually understand, and i need that right now.

thanks for letting me share. i really felt frustrated earlier. and i have to bring this stuff to the group. i'm going make my

M.I. tonight all about this, use some dime therapy and call my friend alex. he hates the braves too.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / i'm still here

i'm still here
hello one and all! sorry that i have been away for a while. it has been nice and busy at the job, which i love.

now that the basketball season is over, i guess i can sit back down at the old computer and do some posting.

wes's "a clockwork straight" had got me curious about kubrick's 1971 classic. so, i've dusted off my copy of "a clockwork orange" and "viddyed" it a few times, though usually by myself and not with any of my droogs or other malchicks around.

has anyone else seen the movies recently? for me, it brought back a lot of those feelings that i had in straight... the paranoia, fear, desperation...

but what i found most fascinating in the movie is the commentary it makes on what do do with people like "little alex". now most of us were not into the old "ultra violence" like the character in the movie, but

society dealt with us in a very similar manor - that is,

to store us away for a while, break us down, and try to reform us.

i think that beacuse of my straight experince, there will always be a little "clockwork orange" in me, in all of us for that matter.

the film also leaves a good discussion to follow...

what do you do with someone like "alex". someone who is a "bad person", who needs to be "cured". what do we do with them? the answer in the late 1980's was a warehouse in stoughton mass. called straight new england.

anyway, sorry to go off on this, but has anyone seen the movie recently? and have any thoughts on it?

viddy well then droogies! viddy well! i'm off to listen to a bit of the old "ludwig van".

feel free to email me if you'd like:

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / the NY Giants
« on: August 01, 2001, 02:54:12 PM »
the NY Giants
the following has nothing to do with straight...

so if you don't like sports, just disregard this post.

i think that the giants have a pretty easy schedule.

they open in denver on the first monday night game

of the season, then are back in new jersey to play

the packers. after that, smooth sailing.

the only division opponent that will give the giants

any real trouble will be dallas. why? - because they

always do. maybe the games with the eagles will

be a bit tough too. the eagles have really turned

their team around, and they could make noise

in the NFC this year.

but this is the last season that the G-men will see

arizona as divisional opponents, so they need to

take advantage of those games. no shaking hands

and hugging here - just go out sack plummer 6 times

and romp 'em 41-6.

the giants waited till the biggest game of the year to

play their worst game of football. the giants looked worse

in the superbowl than they did when they were clobbered

by detroit at home last season 31-21. kerry collins did throw

for 350 yard in the game, but tiki barber was held to only 30

on the ground. any giants fan who watched that game knew that the giants looked like garbage that day. but remeber what head coach jim fassel said after that game? "this team is going to the playoffs" - remember that????

the giants are my team. i stay with them no matter what.

that is what a fan is. no switching sides here.

my advice to NFL fans for this season:

watch the games, enjoy being with your friends, don't drink and drive, and write a letter to the league office expressing your disgust with the NFL's "black-out" rule.

happy game watching everyone!

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / still supporting straight...

still supporting straight...
i was back home recently. and in conversation with my

mother, she revealed that she still believed that straight

was the best thing that happened to me - that it saved

my life.

it's a waste of time to even talk to her about what happened in my 20+ months there. she's such a staunch supporter of it.

my father at least realizes what was wrong, and admits that

he had doubts back then, about me being there for so long.

i respect that. but i am astounded to hear my mother speak, now, in the year 2001, so well of straight.

is it possible to ever have common ground here?

i don't exactly desire any kind of relationship with my family,

that's why i live almost 1,000 miles away from them.

but i'd love it if my mom could at least admit something...

anything... to me... that maybe even just a couple of times,

she questioned what was going in that warehouse.

any thoughts?

whoever is the webmaster of straightincorporated.com

should change the link to the discussion board.

i would imagine that a lot of people, myself included,

found the discussion board from that site or wes or

gingers.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / downey, jr. - a non-story... for now.

downey, jr. - a non-story... for now.

well, it seems that the gang over at foxnews and cnn

(aka, the condit news network) have decided that

today, there are other things more newsworthy than

robert downey, jr.

did downey disappear from the screens of t.v. because of

gary condit attending a house agriculture cmte. hearing

today? - or was it because mr. downey jr. was somewhere

where the watchful eyes of the news networks could not

shoot video?

i hope for downey jr.'s sake that he can use this time

in "re-hab", to sort out whatever it is that is happening

inside of his head. it's his life - i'm content to let him live

it. i wish that the folks at fox and cnn felt the same way.

and the condit thing is different entirely. with that

situation, there is a missing woman, untruths being told

by an elected official (what else is new?), and the

possibility that this young woman is dead. as for mr downey

jr., i just hope that he can exorcise his own demons and

return to the life and work that he loves - and if that

involves cocaine - it's non of my business and of no concern to me.
