Hey Mike this is Kathy Barry.  NOt sure if you remember me, but I do remember you.  Have you gotten a chance to read any of the other pages about Straight?  Just curious.  How are you?  (I'm great, name is now Kathy Martin-MOya, am married have 3 wonderful kids etc., etc.,) Would love to hear from you.

Well, I don't know, everyone seems to be different.  My father was the stronger supporter of my 2 parents and he died while I was on 4th phase, I can only hope that if there is any type of "after-life" that he sees exactly what went on and that makes me feel better.  Also the fact that one family left as a result of my father's death, that makes me feel better.  My mother told me they told her, THEY were going to let this damned program kill them! There are other ex-program parents that do believe me today and tell me so and that makes me feel better.   My mother seems to, deep down, know that it was wrong, but once in 1990, I wrote a non-flattering  letter to the editor about the program and one of my mother's co-workers happened to read it and asked her if it was me.  They told her that they thought that was a well-written letter, and she read them the riot act.  I think she is still vascillating on what she thinks.


All I know is, as I am a parent today, I try to do the best I can with what I know.  Most parents try to do the right thing.  Only God knows what I've done to my children that will land them on the psychiatrist couch 20 years from now.  I sincerely hope I haven't done anything, but I'd be naive to think I was the first one in history to be the PERFECT parent.  


So I try to go with the people that do validate me, and let the subject drop with those who either don't see it or won't admit it.  Parents are people too, and it seems it would be hard to admit such a HUGE mistake. Or maybe it is too painful for them to see the truth.

Thanks for your observation.  Were you able to go into their bathrooms?  What were they like?  What about time-out?  What about "misbehaviors"?  What about Weaver?  Did you find out about the drugs they take?  Why? and How much?  What were their meal times like? Did they have guards at the doors?  If newcomers weren't belt-looped, what prevented them from leaving?  Did they get any mail?  Were they allowed to make phone calls?  Were there only white, upper-middle class kids? Did you get to read their list of rules, or did they have a rules rap? Just some of the questions that come to my mind.


I'm guessing Phil Diaz is one of the current parents at SAFE.  (But I don't know who he is.)

A question...
I have a question for everyone who was ever involved in (or knows someone who was in) a  "program":


Were there any parents, in the family that was involved in the "program", who stayed at home with the children prior to putting the child in the program?

Did you check out the police report.  Alot more rape goes on in the program than what is reported.... I'm sure the Naked Crusader still lives at GT.... For your son's sake, I hope it/he doesn't.  I'll pray for you and your son.

First, I wanted to ask you if you would allow me to visit GT., or attend an open meeting... (if that's what you still call them)  I could tell you immediately if GT was the same as Straight, Inc.  If you can arrange permission for me to visit, I have no problem traveling down there to Florida and giving you my observation of the program.

As you probably know, over the years, as with any business, the company's lawyers become more legal savvy.  After 3 decades of being bombarded with law suits, lawyers continue to learn how to find loop holes in the law that allow these operations to continue.  While I don't have a law suit, I can point you to the Police Report that was filed on GT.  It probably was settled out of court.  That's what has been happening in the recent years.

yeah!!! I'm sooo glad he is home already.  Though, I must commend you once again on being so smart.  When the people first come home from any of these places they may think they are really impressed with the staff and the program... That usually is part of the brainwashing.  Look at me, I did speaking engagements for the abusive program I was in.   Also sometimes there is the element of fear.  Sometimes they are afraid if they speak out about the program, someone will hear and they will be sent back.  The part that bothers me is the taking of the shoes and keeping them there.  That is one of the same elements that are present in many very abusive programs.  Even if there was no physical violence, it sounds like some mind-raping did occur.  


At least he is back and if he ever happens to come to you later on with questions or complaints about the program you know where you can direct him.
