Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / twinkie

My first couple of months in Straight Michigan they had Burger King every Friday night for everyone. The parents were dishing out 500 dollars a week (on top of the money they had to spend for our stay). People in Plymouth, most of them had tons of money.

There were a few parents of the kids who couldn't always afford this, so the Burger King thing stopped and we had to bring sack lunches from the host home.

However, my mom did mention that she still ended up giving 300 dollars or so a week for food.. she thought it was rediculous since most of us brought PB and jelly and apples back the building.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / straight movie

Yeah I barely remember that movie "Not My Kid" only saw it once all the way through.
We got to watch "The Little Mermaid" (joy) and another movie, but I can't remember the name of it.
We only saw 3 movies, but I appreciated them since I was only on 1st phase most of my "program" and 2nd phase only about a month of my stay there.

Watching movies meant we didn't have to relate in group and be bitched out.. it was wonderful!

No I didn't see what they said on 48 hours. I did hear something about someone getting lack of food playing a video game for that long a period of time without eating and died, not sure if he played EverQuest though.
I find myself playing this game all the time when I'm not at work, so I don't post much on here. I am a fan of RPG's.
I don't get lack of sleep, and I do eat, so I know when to quit this game.
I've been playing EQ for a little over a month, and it is extreamly addicting if you don't know when to quit.. lol
for those of you who play it:
I'm on Kane Bayle server, character name:
Eluwenie- Heroes Realm of Norrath (guild)
I'm thinking of switching guilds though, the leader of this one isn't doing what he should as a guild leader.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Former staff forgivable??

That rule was not enforced in Michigan Straight in 1990. The rule for pulling went as such : Need to flag down a 5th phaser when meds were passed out in the morning and we need to request it with the nurse. She in turn would go to staff and if your request was granted you would be pulled out of group to speak to staff and your parents and see if you were allowed to be "pulled".
If you are 18 and not court ordered you can pull yourself from the program and your request would be granted within 24 hours.

I remember in rules rap how the person relating the "pull yourself" rule would sarcastically say that "if you tell the 5th phaser, and He May send your request up to junior, where you MIGHT get talked to bout it, then SR will, eventually, try to talk you out of it....and so on."  The rule was recited with giggles and sarcasim as we all KNEW that requests to pull oneself were routinly IGNORED, even if the client was over 18.  In the early 80's, I venture to say almost nobody got to pull themselves unless they split or had an outside helper to pressure the program about it.  Many 18 plus people were held for LONG periods, stating the desire to leave.  I remember Miller Newton telling a guy in exec rap who had sent a pull request up the coc that"I haven't seen it, follow COC"

JR and SR staff sat on it, but I am sure Miller was 1st to know when a request went in.  Sr and jr staff ROUTINELY stalled pull requests, or allowed themselves to be used as cover.  Any former staff wish to comment...

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Still Can't Fall Asleep?
« on: October 18, 2002, 12:16:00 AM »
Yes, I was an ex-Navy wife for 2 years, so I somewhat understand what you are going through, my ex-husband a lot of times had to work double shifts and wouldn't come home till the next day.
I didn't know anyone where he was stationed and nighttime was a bit frighting for me, only 1 car in the family and a newborn baby in the home at the time.
I didn't work, I stayed at home, but a lot of times I felt like I didn't really have a full family at all, especially when I was pregnant.

Yeah, a lot of rules changed in the 90's and I heard that most of the ones you posted were in effect at that time in the 80's.
There were so many rules to remember, I could never think of all of them. But thanks for the info

Misbehavior, well, having sex with your own family is different, I say "whatever floats your boat" but there are some who don't care. Myself, I don't have any brothers, only one older sister, and I would never in my life dream of doing something like that! EWW YUCK.. but thanks for sharing. Love ya, have a seat.. LOL.. only kidding

I always hated these songs after I went to Straight

I am Straight
Straight is It
Cats in the Cradle
Living Years (until I came to straight I liked this song)
Monkeys jumping on the bed (ugh.. please)
itsy bitsy spider
This Land is Your Land

Most of these songs were sang before a yelling rap.. so I cringe when I hear them.. thank God I don't hear most of them on the radio now.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Who owned the Buildings?
« on: October 18, 2002, 12:00:00 AM »
As far as I know, they may have rented the Straight building in Plymouth Michigan, it was a car repair shop before it became Straight Inc. and when it closed it was up for rent again, and again it became a car repair shop.

As far as I know a lot of money came from the parents who put thier kids in this place, so I am only assuming that the money from the parents, the majority went to the staff and exects. and little of it went to maintaning the building.

The carpeting and floors in the intake rooms were unbearable. The first time I sat on that carpet it was greasy and smelly, the floors in the intake room were broken up and I tried to use one of the pieces of that floor to hurt myself, I just kept breaking it off.

So I'm not sure who really decided to maintain it, but I can tell you one thing, I think it was sad to see so many parents dishing out all this money for this place and the  carpet and floor problems were never handled.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Former staff forgivable??

The only time I was able to actually talk to a staff member was when I requested to pull myself from the program. I did this 3 times and my parents denied me everytime. So of course the staff would talk with me one on one and tell me that I have no place else to go and I better stay.
When I turned 18 I was finally able to sign myself out, and various staff actually took the time to convince me to stay, I told them "no way in hell will I stay no matter what you offered me" they got upset and told me that I would die on the streets.
Actually from a conversation I had from a phaser I went to the same rehab with, she told me that one of the staff members went back to using and died, she 7th stepped and everything, I was only up to 2nd phase and never made it past that.
Hmm.. I wonder if it was my will power that I wouldn't allow them to break me ??

I find nothing wrong with gay/bi people. There were many at my former job and a few at my current one, it doesn't make you less of a person, and I think those who tried to make you feel less were just wanting to soar their own ego.
I think you should do what you feel is right as a human being and in your heart to do so.
Don't ever let someone judge you for what you believe and who you are because it just causes depression and bad thoughts.
I found this out the hard way after my ex-husband left me, I wasn't "pretty" enough for him and I became a stronger person after he left.
I'm not prejudice and I accept those for who they are, if they have a problem with me, I tell them to stuff it! lol
Take care

LOL James, I was told that when I signed myself out that I would die in the gutter doing drugs again and back in my habits. I told them I wouldn't and I just wanted to graduate high school and go on from there.
I showed them  I didn't do drugs since my intake in 1990, and I have a great job now working for a major company! haha, I would love to see thier faces now if I tell them who I work for, and yes, they did an extensive background check on me at this job before I got hired in!

My GOD! That probably took a lifetime to reiterrate all of that! Either that or whoever posted that still has all the info from when they were in.
But thanks for doing that! Most of the terminology I forgot about.

Strange that most locations I've heard of old Straight Inc. buildings are next to a facility that uses welding or tools. Hmmm.. Plymouth Straight had the same thing, and I believe there was also one on the southeast part of the country to I remember reading about, just can't remember the State. Strange
