The Troubled Teen Industry / Provo Canyon girl had stroke?
« on: June 23, 2006, 02:30:00 AM »
I should have realized this a long time ago...

I may have previously posted about a girl who was at Provo canyon with me (in the 90's).  She went on a home visit and did a bunch of speed.

Her therapist had gone on this home visit with her, and was actually staying at her parents' house also.  Apparantely, he knew this girl had gotten wasted, and convinced her to return to PCS by promising her she would not be in any trouble.

Silly girl actually went back... and we were all shocked at what we saw.  Her tongue was paralized (well, pretty much her entire mouth), and she was unable to talk!  She was in a huge amount of trouble, and was not allowed to speak to anybody for a long time (other than in our weekly therapy group).

Several months later, she was allowed to speak to us, but was physically unable to!  Her mind was still there (I think), but she would struggled just to speak a few words!  Her speech never did improve much, and she went home like that, somewhere around her 18th birthday.

Geez, this girl clearly had a stroke!  We know she did a whole bunch of speed, which probably resulted in her blood pressure going through the roof and resulted in a stroke.

She received no medical attention!  This girl should have been an inpatient at a hospital for a few days to assess the damage;  she should have had an MRI, a CT scan, and a swallow test.  She should have been in long-term speech therapy.     WTF???

Anyone see that?  Now that the videos have been released, proving that Bush had plenty of warning about the storm, but said nothing, didn't even ask any questions; so Brownie may pretty much be exonerated.

Brat Camp / "private school" vouchers?

I don't want to give these people any ideas... but I wonder if Bush's "school vouchers" can be used towards "tuition" at these places.

Has anyone been to Jacksonville, Florida, or know anything about it??

I found out that is where my BF and I will be moving to next June (because he got into a training program there), so we will stay for 3 or 4 years.

I once heard of a small number of people (okay, maybe one person) going to a parent support meeting of Provo Canyon School (meeting was in CA).  This person approached the parents outside of the building, and gave them pamphlet.  I'm not sure if anything resulted from it.

But I have both the time and inclination to take part in something like that.

Richard Schwartz was my pediatrician in the early 90's.  At a check-up when I was 14, my mother spoke to him, said she was having problems with me, I was being rebellious, ect...  He proceeded to drug test my urine (w/o my knowledge).  Well, it was negative.  He recommended my mother send me to Provo Canyon School- which was the worst experience of my life.

My mother blindly sent me there;  did not recognize the signs of abuse; and only now, years later, realizes just how fucked up that place is, and admits it was a huge mistake sending me there.

I think that, had my urine been + for any drugs, that crazy man would have had me sent to Straight.  Was it still around in '93?  If not, where were these kids being sent?

A few other things to mention about this man:

*He was also my best friend's pediatrician.  When she was 10, her mother asked him about getting her on a healthier diet, because she was a bit overweight.  He stated something to the effect of "She will always be fat.  there is nothing you can do about it".

*When I was 10, he barged into the exam room, let out an exasperated sigh, and hollered "If I put you on a diet, will you stay on it?" (I was a pretty athletic kid, an excellent gymnast, just had a few extra pounds).

*When I was 12, I refused to allow him to do a genital exam (he should have offered to have a female nurse do the exam, or at least be present).  Then later, when complained that he was hurting my ears (I had bad history of ear infections), he stated "Look, I didn't make you take your pants off.  I could have a nurse come in and hold you down".

*When I was 14, I was afraid of needles and did not want to get the then-new hepatitis B shot.  DR. Schwartz sighed loudly, then proclaimed "I ASSUME you're sexually active?"  I was mortified.  Just the thought of sex terrified me.

That man has a terrible bedside manner, and should not be working with children.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Does anyone think AA is a cult?
« on: May 16, 2005, 06:55:00 PM »
If a cult is (partly) defined as a group that tells it's followers that their way is the *only* way to go, does that mean that AA and NA are cults?

The Troubled Teen Industry / Is this illegal or unethical or okay??
« on: May 01, 2005, 08:26:00 AM »
At Provo Canyon School, I personally witnessed several kids convert to Mormonism, and get baptized (though PCS claims to be secular...such BS).

Is it illegal, or what to indoctrinate and baptize minors, regardless of how their parents feel about it?
