Hey bro Pirate. Thanks for getting back to me. Please PM. Jason

What bothers me are the door chimes that shops and other places use for security, etc. It reminds me of the phaser room and I instantly tense up. I also don't like being checked out with the metal detection wands when clearing security. I suppose nobody really does and I'm making too much of nothing. Jason

From the ground up...Vasque or Altama boots, Smartwool or Wick-dry socks,anti-perspirant spray on my feet(keeping sweat down). BDU(battle dress uniform) w/Under Armour. Or maybe 5.11 if I'm civi. Spec Ops on board BDU slip kit. A folding knife (RAT MOD 1) and Swiss Army knife (it varies). Safariland drop-leg holster for my 9mm and tac-lite. Rigger's belt and a bunch of stuff that varies, but will always include my 1st AID kit and commo. As much h2o and ammo as I can haul. Fingerless aviation gloves, my Arnette shades and my IU cap. Dragon Skin vest and the rest is NOT sanctioned, but I need it all. Jason

yea, but this time I was PSD, not shootin' and lootin'. What was/is your MOS? One thing I luv about the tangos is the reaction when they see a shotgun. Everybody and their mamma has an AK or variant, but when those MFers see the bore on a 12 ga., they back the fuck off. Stay frosty. Jason

Pirate, check out a chewable tab known as DGL.
It's Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice. Avaailable at most health food stores, it's cheap and has provided relief for me when I've had acute GERD. Press on and never ring out. Jason

Allow me to enter this timely quote into discussion:

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."--Theodore Roosevelt

Ex-P, I just went back into my mind and detatched from the funhouse. I was brutal at the the building and the nicest guy ya ever met at the host home. I thought about the girl I was in love with, my YZ125, the .45 my Dad put under the Christmas tree for me (the staff really bitched that one up) and my friends. My MIs were often sketches of the group room w/plans for tomorrow or lyrics (usually Ozzy or Sabbath).

The two most important were thinking about my first girlfriend and how much I love her. Next was restraint; ie. If I fucked some mealy ass phaser up too badly(like crushing a windpipe with the frame of a blue chair), I go to DYS until I'm 18 or 21. It was a delicate balance that I managed to achieve. I often took the restraint on the floor as "the easy way out". I've used the same self-restraint to save my own  and a few other lives over time.

Now, I'm gonna jam Audioslave's "Doesn't Remind Me" and hope for a pleasant dream. Wish you the same. Jason

After looking over the ranges of time spent by survivors of Str8, I began to wonder why. Some people misbehaved, complied, "slid thru", actually believed (at the time they were being "treated" or a combination of the above.

Going through my books (as I load out), one quote summed up my position pretty damn well:

"A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week"
(General George S. Patton, Jr. U.S. Army)

Any thoughts? It's fucking ancient history, but I still wonder how and why some people were stuck there for so long...Any thoughts? Jason

WD, I wondered if that was you after the pemmican post. I look forward to your other recipes. Maybe an exchange of info on herbs and edible plants (I'm lacking there) for some of the skills that I'm more proficient with.? Prob take this to PM since it's not straight related. Sound cool? Jason

I will not hi-jack this thread any futher than to say it is nice to know that self-reliance and primitive skills are still known to some. Also, you would have not expended nearly the amount of energy I did on that hunt (good), but it would have been quite a hike to find a freshwater fishing hole. In closing, I will say that if I was TRULY in a survival situation, I'd choose a swamp/mangrove environ and my ever present fixed blade knife. Jason

Take down a deer(rifle, shotgun, handgun, bow, etc). Allow the carcass to cool(ticks and other parasites will detach) and bleed out the animal.
Dress out the animal at least 1/4 mile from camp. Suspend the kill (if possible) and build a small travois. Remove a shoulder or even better a loin and bring to camp. Tired yet?

Dig a Dakota Hole (modified firepit/organic Dutch oven) and start a fire within eyeshot of camp. Wrap meat in aluminum foil and add 1 or 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup. Top off with a packet of dried Lipton onion soup and black pepper. Place tightly wrapped Bambi in the Dakota hole (or other expedient firepit) with plenty of coal and a few rocks (not granite or stream stones). Tired now?

Set up shelter at camp and build another fire for many other uses. Sit around and drink Jaeggi and rum and open a big can of beans (depending on how many buds ya gotta feed). Bullshit and make sure the camp perimeter is secure. 3-4 hours later bust out Bambi and enjoy. Crash with a pistol at your side.

Break camp, toss the deer on the travois and go take shower; you'll need one. A bit of work, but it sure is better than a nastyass Quarter Pounder w/cheese. Jason

ETA: take out any trash you brought; scavengers will clean up Bambi's offal.

About 6.5 months. After I got my 180 day start over and sent to my own home as a newcomer, I was getting worn down. The Execs threatened to transfer me to Boston; even sending Boston Execs to Cinci to "observe". I fought like hell and was rewarded with decompression at a psych ward. Then home like nothing ever happened...Jason

Quoting Col. Kilgore from "Apocalypse Now":

"FUCKING SAVAGES!"

A small group of Girl Scouts w/.22 rifles and some fire discipline could take out those highly trained "rebels". And, NO I'm not a racist; just enjoy seeing Darwin's theory in action. Jason
