I'd like to suggest that you look into Del Amo in Southern California. It's near your home - they allow and encourage visitation. They have both an inpatient and outpatient program.
Provo Canyon would be a disappointment for you. They also discourage parent/child contact for the first few months. We had a terrible experience there with our child. Best wishes to you. Here's the link.

What happened to this boy is common place in the teen industry - it also happened to my own child. Changes must be made soon to protect these disenfrancised children.

Obviously he wasn't acting - he died as a result of heat exposure - why don't you try exercising in 110 degree heat. See if you feel like passing out after an hour of so. The negligene that was demonstrated was so outrageous. To bring his lifeless body back without calling for emergency assistance was horrific. When he was found passed out and face down in the water - immediate resucitation efforts should have been initiated and 911 called. This was not done. Also it was extremely negligent to leave him alone in a bathtub when he was unconscious or semi-conscious. He should have been brought to the Emergency room instead of a hotel room. What happend to him defies reason and was extremely negligent. I believe that this was done to prevent licensed health care workers from reporting this abusive treatment to the authroities. This is often the case. The punishment that was given was not enough in my opinion.

If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit  people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good?  Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race?

You really need to get more control of the situation. I don't know if you have custody of your son or not. If you have any type of custody then you need to exercise it. You really need to let the facility know that you want to be a part of your son's treatment - which means you want to be able to talk to him as often as you wish (within reason) and to visit as often as you like. Any program that does not involve the parent in the process is a big red flag - they just want your money type of program.
You really need to get him out of there as quickly as you can. I'd suggest you go there and request AMA papers and realease him against medical advice if need be.
It sounds as though he is in a very abusive program - particularly since they are not allowing any communication with parents and using other patients (children) in the therapy. I'd suggest calling child protective services and asking them to place him in protective custody. If he needs treatment - find a place that allows and encourages parental involvemnent, daily phone contact and visitation. This is your child and you really need to get a handle on the situation. If you don't have custody get an order to show cause and reagain it in a court of law. Best Wishes.

History does not record anywhere or at any time a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the unkonwn without help. But, like dandruff, most people do have a religion and spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from fiddling with it.

Open Free for All / Boycott of gasoline - September 10
« on: September 01, 2005, 07:51:00 PM »
Sick of the neverending price hike of gasoline - it's time to boycott....September 10 - please pass this on....

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL
COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER
4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE Sept 10TH, 2005 HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM DAY"
AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT
DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY
PEOPLE A S YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT
GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT
THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE
SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE
FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS
SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES
ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE
WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS!!!

Web pages are like babies -- creation involves a level of enthusiasm that does not necessarily carry over into maintenance.

He has actually no credentials. Why is he a guest speaker? It was announced that he was the Director of Provo Canyon School at this meeting. Is he a director of Provo Canyon School. His talk was so boring. All about meaning No when you say no to children. He said, "They dont believe that they need to do what you ask them to do because you loose credibility by giving in to them after saying no." This causes you as a parent to loose crediblity. "Credibility is critical - no must mean no." He just goes on and on adnauseum about this. He also has a speach impediment with his "s" - has problems with the word, "this" and other with s.
His talk was very boring - he lacks credibility because he has no CREDENTIALS.

so long as the universe had a beginning, we could suppose it had a creator. But if the universe is completely self-contained, having no boundary or edge, it would neither be created nor destroyed it would simply be. What place, then, for a creator?

Brat Camp / WWASP is now using BRAT CAMP to make money
« on: August 05, 2005, 02:05:00 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WWASP is jumping on the band wagon and using the new program Brat Camp to their economic advantage. Sadly this program is only going to serve to increase this multi-billion dollar industry. People watching will no doubt see this as a good alternative.  More children will be abused and more will die. Here's the WWASP link

WWASP is cashing in on the GOOD publicity from the pseudo-reality show BRAT CAMP. See for yourselves....

The bible teaches that woman brought sin and death into the world, that she precipitated the fall of the race, that she was arraigned before the judgment seat of Heaven, tried, condemned and sentenced. Marriage for her was to be a condition of bondage, maternity a period of suffering and anguish, and in silence and subjection, she was to play the role of a dependent on man's bounty for all her material wants, and for all the information she might desire...Here is the Bible position of woman briefly summed up.

Obviously the industry is using this Nationally televised program to recruit more families into this notorious industry. There will be more injuries and deaths.

Brat Camp / ABC'S FAMILY PROGRAMMING: DEATHS, SEXUAL ABUSE, AND A BOOMI
« on: August 05, 2005, 01:47:00 PM »
The down side has not be adequately exposed and ABC, in it's quest for Jerry Springer type exploitation should be held partially responsible when more deaths occure as a result of negligence and cruelty - which occurs often.

The supportive, nurturing environment shown on this "reality" program is the exception not the rule. Parents  should beware and search before trusting a program to change their difficult teen.

Never underestimate the power of the status quo...America's schools are part of government, subject to public whim and will.  By and large, we have the kind of schools that people want. While they acknowledge the need for improvement, in other people's schools, most American are reasonably content with their own.

Brat Camp / Brat Camp Fake?
« on: August 05, 2005, 01:43:00 PM »
I broke down and watched BRAT CAMP for the first time. This Nationally televised program does not show the down side - the lethal and near lethal restraints, the ill-experienced staff, the cruelty, the starvation and deprivation of water.
Many children have died in wilderness programs and many others have reported cruel treatment.

This program shows caring, kind, supportive counselors who give lots of hugs. This isn't usually the case. Those who want to know more should search the cases of Aaron Bacon who died as a result of a perforated ulcer due to starvation also Ian August. There are many others. The down side of BRAT CAMP needs to be exposed to masses. This program is only going to lead to a proliferation of these money-making programs.

Our nada who art in nada, nada be thy name. Thy kingdom nada, thy will be nada as it is in nada. Give us this nada our daily nada and nada us our nada as we nada our nadas and nada us into nada but deliver us from nada; pues nada. Hail nothing full of nothing, nothing is with thee.

The Troubled Teen Industry / The REAL Brat Camp Message Board
« on: August 05, 2005, 01:26:00 PM »
It sounds like many of the parents are lamenting about not hearing from their children. In fact one indicated that she thought her daughter was punishing her by not writing. They were also lamenting about not hearing anything at all from the program for weeks at a time. It's obvious that these  parents did not do any reasearch into the down-side of the industry before trusting a program with their child. Here is one post - many are similar

"Thanks for all the wonderful replies.  This is difficult, not hearing from our daughter, but I'm trying not to let it get the best of me.  No one is very surprised that she's punishing us.  It's a pattern.  I guess she hasn't had any big "breakthroughs" yet and that is disappointing.

Her last picture she was actually smiling, so that was a good sign.  She looked incredibly dirty, I might add!  Do they ever get to change their shirts or underwear??  I speak to her therapist today at noon, so I'm looking forward to that.  I'm also worried about the extreme heat in the country.  I noticed the area where her camp is is over 100 degrees.

I've written to her therapist once or twice and never got a reply back.  I wasn't too happy about that.  Anyone had that experience?

Our daughter is supposed to stay at camp for four weeks, and we're about two and a  half weeks into it.  With so little progress, I suppose, (or perhaps I am just imagining that) I am worried about her coming home...."

But in a constitutional republic, voting on dinner is strictly
forbidden.

The Troubled Teen Industry / all programs soon to be shut down
« on: August 05, 2005, 01:14:00 PM »
With the new Nationally televised program, Brat Camp, these programs are only going to proliferate. The program shows very caring and loving counselors who give lots of support and hugs to the children. People aren't seeing the down side.
Reform is something that we should all try to work for to make the programs safer for children. I personally would like to see the more abusive programs closed. It has happened in Mexico and elsewhere. Public awareness is essential.
As long as there are parents who can not handle their difficult teenagers - or ordinary teenagers- there are going to be programs. We need to continually expose the abuse that goes on to educate the public and we need to support efforts to make the programs safer.
