The camp was in Spain and mostly served the Swiss people. Anyway, apparently the parents never visited the place before sending their kids there. This is probably happening all over the world - unfortunately some kids aren't fortunate enough to gain the attention of the police.

Screening pre-school kids for anti-social behavior is about as useful as screening the Christian Coalition for sanctimonious behavior.

Illegal ?brat camp? kept children in animal sheds

Police in Girona have arrested three people on charges of abusing children in an illegal juvenile ?brat camp? for teenagers from Switzerland.
There are reports that the children were kept shut up in cages made for wild boars when they refused to work or said they felt ill. One said he had been inside a cage for eight hours every day over a period of three months.
Italian born Lorena Elizabeth B, aged 30, her partner Armin Markus S, 44 a Swiss national and 60-year-old Raymond N from France have admitted keeping the youngsters in animal sheds and depriving them of food but deny hitting the children.
The police investigation began when national police in Figueres came were alerted when a 14-year-old boy was found wandering around the local train station. He told them he had escaped from a juvenile centre in Sant Llorenç de la Muga, because he was being mistreated there.
Police raided the premises and found five teenagers who are believed to have been mistreated by being shut in wild boar shed no bigger than a metre square..
The unlicensed centre allegedly received 4,000 euros a month per child to treat the children?s supposed behavioural problems.

You made the right decision - Provo Canyon School may look good and sound good - but it's not. It has a long history of patient abuse in the guise of treatment and rehabilitation. What they are most interested in is $$$$$. They will take anyone with excellent insurance or whoever can pay $13,000 per month.

I'd suggest you get an attorney to represent you and your child. If they told you 30 days and now it's turning into more than a year - you really need to get some legal advice right away. Go to a civil rights attorney. Has your daughter told you of any abuse at the facility? Physical, emotional, sexual abuse. Sometimes children don't tell parents what's really going on because they are afraid of retaliation. I want you to act fast. Good luck.

I've worked with them and they respond really well to kindness and love. Something they get little of in residential programs.

Boot Camp Death Looks Like Murder-Public should view video

I've been researching the horrific abuse of America's institutionalized youth. The brutal death of Martin Lee Anderson at a Florida boot camp run by the sheriffs's department is outrageous. Sadly the type of abuse that caused his death is common in both private and public troubled youth programs and boot camps throughout the country.

Refusal to release the video showing a half-dozen large men sadistically restraining and beating a small 14-year old boy is illegal and a violation of Florida's constitution.  Authorities often close ranks and records when a youth in a teen program dies or is injured. Apparently there have been other complaints about similar abuse that was systematically swept under the carpet. Now a boy is dead - his crime - going for a joy-ride in his grandma's car with four of his cousins.  This could be anyone's child! The people of Florida and those elected to protect their rights must act now to safeguard Florida's disenfranchised institutionalized children.

There are thousands of individuals across the nation who have been victims of the unregulated troubled teen industry. Hundreds of children as young as 7- years old have died at the hands of those hired to care for them.  Brutal restraints often result in death, that's why many states have out-lawed them.

Reports of  horrific abuse that includes brutal restraint, hogtying, pole tying, beatings, starvation, denial of medical care, drugging, stripping, prolonged isolation in dark rooms often falls upon the deaf ears of authorities who usually act to support the teen boot camps and programs.

This tragedy is the tip of the iceberg. Child abuse in the guise of rehabilitation must stop. Hiding  facts and records from the taxpayers who pay for the Panama City Boot Camp is political corruption at it's worse. We have a right to know that children are being tortured and sometimes killed while in the custody of the youth authority. Florida's troubled youth are not being rehabilitated - they are being tortured and murdered.

It seems that this video should be public record. It really needs to be televised so that the public is aware of what really goes on. Hopefully the press is trying to get this under the public right to know act. They should be able to since the facilty is public - and since the tape has been shown to elected officials.

The parents of this child did not put him in the program. The courts sent him there for some petty crime. There have been a lot of deaths at Vision Quest - they are no example of a lovely program.
Here's a parial list - maybe it could be sent to editor....

Carlos Ruiz, dead at age 13, VisionQuest

Perhaps this was seizure related - the constant head banging could have been seizure related rather than behavior related. Perhaps he was having seizures. I remember a child who always wore a helmet because she would bang her head because she had seizures all of the time as a result of being physically abused as a baby. Since this child probably was abused by his parents a seizure disorder should have been considered rather than a behavior problem.

Who would believe that a democratic government would pursue for eight decades a failed policy that produced tens of millions of victims and trillions of dollars of illicit profits for drug dealers, cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars, increased crime and destroyed inner cities, fostered widespread corruption and violations of human rights - and all with no success in achieving the stated and unattainable objective of a drug free America?
