Title: Anyone have experience with a program called Ascent?
Post by: dfaassen on June 07, 2004, 02:30:00 PM
Well, I just spoke to the admissions director of Boulder Creek Academy (though it was strange, I was given her cell phone to call her and they answered it "Rocky Mountain Academy"...) Anyway, she said they WERE licensed by the state of Idaho by The Dept. of Health and Welfare in State of Idaho.  When I asked if I could get copies of the last 2 visits by the State, she said she didn't see why not, they just had a visit in April and I just had to contact the State agency.  After I went into detail about my daughter, she spoke to me of a program called Ascent.  Wondering about it...She did say they took mostly kids (at Boulder Creek) that had been diagnosed with a clinical disorder like ADHD or MILD bipolor, etc.  She said it wasn't the place for kids with MAJOR problems of these kinds.  And since, my daughter has run away twice (just overnight), and because she didn't call me to let me know where she was, Ascent may be a starting place for her.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Ascent is a Cedu program.  I suggest you check out the Cedu forum before you make a decision.

heck i just got back from ascent yesterday.  you don't have to have major problems to be at ascent.  i drank a lot, and got expelled from schol for co-ed use of dorms, and had a horrible relationship with my parents.  I hated my parents, when i was first dropped off by my parents they told me it was a summer camp, but i quickly found out other wise, its a hard program, but it works.  after six weeks, i love my family, realize what i have done wrong, learned new tools to deal with my anger, don't want to drink again, and just have an overall better out look on life.  it is a tuff decisino to make to send your kid, but in the end it will be the right decision.  hope this helps.  the ascent website doesn't tewll you anything about what it really is but it does tell you what you will come out with.
