all I have to say is, I can't believe anyone has ever actually become upset over something a person from Newton, MA had to say...

and they make you drag the seafood to the kitchen, cook it, and tell you the whole time that these fish died JUST SO YOU COULD EAT THEM, and make you feel guilty about these fish dying, but it was all you could eat.

Kaz I hope you don't think I'm coming at you like the guest was. When I said I was with the guest I just meant I had my doubts, not that I like his abrasive style. My only reason for doubting you is that the nature of the program, the very basis of their whole break-you-down-and-rebuild-you plan relies on the fact that they have those work assignments in their back pocket. You either do what they say and act how they say you act or you can sit and weed a path that will take so long to weed, the part you started on will be sprouting again by the time you get to the end. The way Dish says it was in his days is how it was when I left in '02...they couldn't not hand out work assignments because that's just how the program worked.

If staff realized you had gone awhile without a work assignment, they went up to your dorm and found something wrong with your bedspace - part of a sheet sticking out here or a thumbtack on the floor there - and they gave you a work assignment. Or they followed you around, just within earshot, waiting for you to curse or talk about your friend from back home that smokes weed with one lung or spit on a path or walk into a building without having your shirt fully tucked in first. All offenses punishable by work assignments.

So maybe the staff don't pull that shit anymore. If that's the case, then man, you need to find yourself a time machine and go live a day at BCA in the 90's. You're missing out on all the fun. But I have a feeling they haven't gone all anti-bullshit work assignments, so I caution you to think on this, because it's exactly what happened to me: I picked up so many work assignments and restrictions and such in my early BCA days and then I got smart and started playing the program the way you said you played it, and the work assignments and restrictions waned. But about a year ago I realized that eventually I had lost the ability to determine how far I could go before I actually WAS giving into the program and not just playing the game anymore. Down the road you're going to realize that line was blurrier than you thought. And if you're anything like me, it's going to really haunt you.



Stina - I keep in touch with a couple of my old BCA friends, and we've been in touch with a few staff members that are still in the program (and for the really uncensored news, we're still friends with a couple staff that were unjustly fired but still have spouses who work there haha). I really haven't gotten the vibe from any of them that the program has changed as much as Kaz claims...they alluded to a few instances where kids were getting bullshit workies or restrictions like the old days. I also know a girl whose little brother was sent to BCA about 2 1/2 years ago (thanks to my parents recommendation). Was there for about a year.

no you're right, the mitchell report was completely over-hyped, was an immense waste of money, and probably named a fraction of the players who were actually juicing. in all honesty, the report didn't need to name names. the suppliers should have been called out and the implications on young athletes should have been the focus, but if you can't name them all then don't single out a small percentage of the players.

my motives for the post are more that I hate the yankees and will jump at the chance to discredit their 4 straight titles

unfortunately, though, everyone is not on it. I'd argue that there are more players in MLB and the minors that are clean than there are juicing. when I left BCA and came home and rejoined my HS baseball team (I played at a school that is very competitive annually in baseball...fortunately I was able to play ball at BCA and didn't have too much catching up to do), I found that a few players on the team had begun to take steroids (and even then that's only the few players I knew about), and even though our school was a powerhouse, I'm sure a good chunk of players on other teams were using them as well. still, most of my friends on the team and I would never touch the stuff, so how is that fair to us?

high school baseball is far more important and competitive than college baseball; if you're not drafted into the minors straight out of high school, you're probably not cut out for the pros (of course, a lot of guys get drafted out of HS but defer and go to school because they're wise). so I'd say the percentage of pros and high school seniors juicing are not too far off, and there are enough clean pros and HS players that it really isn't fair play.

not to mention the pure hell it wreaks on your body. it's a sad day if one of our nation's most beloved games has an entry fee of severe bodily harm, all because the only way to ensure "fair play" is for everyone to just give in and juice.

I know 3 married survivor couples, they all seem to be doing pretty well...though I see where you're coming from. I dunno, i feel like it's as likely to be a trainwreck as any other relationship. I personally wouldn't want to date a survivor because the girls at cedu didn't tend to be very attractive...no offense....hey, prove me wrong!

for the record, I "dated" someone at cedu for about 9 months and it was an obscenely dysfunctional trainwreck of a relationship. and yet as twisted as it was, it still doesn't compare to some of the girls I've dated over the 6 years since....

by "dated" i mean we pretended we hated each other in front of everyone (secretly I think we really did) and then snuck off to creative places for quick, usually unsatisfying encounters (unsatisfying as in every minute or so one of us going "did you hear something?").

did anyone ever actually believe there was a difference? if so then you are Evian spelled backwards.
