Peninsula Village / Re: Update on The Village
« on: August 03, 2010, 09:31:49 PM »
Quote from: "Pile of Dead Kids"
Does WATE know or care what actually happens there?

WATE knows what the Village does, Bob Pegler has informed them for years.  Which means they are (were) absolutely clueless.  My wife and I counted six commercials for Covenant Health-related facilities within an hour during WATE's prime time.  WATE are right-wing, conservative media whores who know damned well who butters their bread.  I had a dialogue going with WATE's "investigative" reporter Lori Tucker, who wanted to interview our family to get "the other side, since Ms. Tucker claimed she had never heard anything negative about PV.  A friend who knew the situation said Tucker must be a "shitty" investigative reporter, a simple Google search brought up a library of PV's abuse and deceit. WATE scheduled time with us to do pre-interviews and review my daughter's medical files, which no one thought was acceptable.  Ms. Tucker kept referring to PV's McLain and Pegler as Adam and Bob, which set off our air horns.  WATE refused to allow outside psychiatric opinion in the piece, even refusing to allow a local member of ASTART a chance to discuss the the TTI as generic whole.  Everyone's gut said "this will be a hatchet job for the family and a knob polishing for the Village".  Our interview would be chopped up to keep the ugly truth hidden, and Bob Pegler would prepare and film a rebuttal calling my kid's treatment an "exception" and "reassure" everyone that the Village "isn't like other places, we got licenses that cost a lot of jack".  Strange that Bob Pegler has no State licenses, only his bought-and-mailed "certifications".

We bailed on WATE.  Lori Tucker and I wrote to each other a couple of times afterward - I had the privilege of telling her about Adam McLain and Steve Petty getting terminated, and she said someone was "ripping her to pieces" on the WATE forum about PV.  When the PV discussion got too hot, WATE did away with the forum entirely.  That shows how in bed WATE is with the Village - they share the same style of dealing with unpleasant truths. They delete documentation and facts, then take away the troublesome individual's access to be heard. Once they're sure the parent or survivor is silenced and can't respond, they go back to the party line of blind faith in the Village, occasionally launching attacks on the banished troublemaker.  One mother posting on the PV Parent's forum criticized PV's misrepresentation of Bob Pegler as a state licensed Psychologist.  She got a reply from Pegler himself, saying it was a webpage error, the mistake was only up for two weeks.  The mom had done her homework and pointed out Wayback Machine's cached PV pages showed Pegler listed as a licensed Psychologist and health service provider for two years, not two weeks, and Pegler has never held a state license and no proof could be found to show Pegler had a degree in anything, since he apparently never went to College.  When the mother posted the factual correction, Bob demanded that the forum moderator ban the mother, calling her a "false parent" and a "CAFETY mole" who would spread misinformation and grow increasingly "obscene" if she wasn't banned with a quickness.  Once the concerned mom was kicked off the forum, Bob once again labeled her a "false parent" and demanded blind faith in the program from the other parents.

"False parents"?  An unethical and deceitful leader who demands blind idiot faith from his sheep and excommunicates blasphemers and doubters before going full-on Torquemada...  Oh, hell no nothing cult-like about the Village.

Quote from: "WATE"
At the psychiatric rehab center for teens in Louisville called The Village, the sound of a horn can be heard several times a day. It signals when someone is misbehaving.

LOL...at least the Village now admits to using air horns during restraints, but they don't identify who is "misbehaving" - staff or patient?  Air horns go off at the Village when survivors and angry parents are on the Village property, filming while setting off the loudest PV-style horns at the worst possible times for the program - like graduation, State inspections, parents visitation days...Bob P. knows those angry horns.  The staff shit themselves, too, because the horns are forbidden when "visitors" are at the Village.

Donkey fucking is a friendly noncompetitive sport played in Burma involving two men and a donkey with one jar of vaseline. You shouldn't be a hater, and thank god I've never been to Burma.

What could be more sporting than barnyard animals and petroleum jelly?   The Burmese think it is competitive, they're trying to get it entered as a sport in the next Summer Olympics.

Reptile House - I Stumble as the Crow Flies EP

Intricate interplay between guitars on the track "Powersoul"...both records are great.  They got some good-looking kid handling  guitar duties on Listen to the Power Soul, looks like a friend of mine...

This page contains a list of names of children lost during program (LDP) or at some point shortly after the program.

That seems to be the conditions, seems alright to me.

"Without the program, your child will end up dead or in jail" (or some slight variation) is the sick pitch used to set the hook in exploited parents.  It's a horrible guilt trip to lay on a parent, especially considering the programs can't produce one unbiased, legitimate report showing long term gains.

Che's right about the conditions for inclusion on the list of children lost due to programs, during and after.  A child lost during the program (LDP) speaks for itself.  Parents shell out money to programs which promise a safer, more secure environment than public education.  A public school would not allow a child in acute abdominal distress to suffer for days while calling the kid a "faker" before placing a too-late call for medical aid.

"At some point shortly after the program" doesn't take into account the trauma of involuntary institutionalization and unlicensed, unqualified staff practicing mental/medical health treatment.  It doesn't take into account how the mind deals with horrific mental and physical abuse.  Programs would fold if required to hire competent, licensed and ethical clinicians and staff.  Josef Mengele would be program director at some Utah RTC if he were alive today.  Unlike the clinical staff working in most teen programs, Mengele's educational background and credentials were at least legitimate.

It can take years before a program survivor starts processing their RTC experience.  After all, responsible guardians and mental health professionals were involved, they couldn't be as sadistic as they seemed.  A program survivor described a "three year simmer" period she had witnessed in kids freed from programs.  The first year or more is spent re-assembling a shattered life.  The second year is spent blocking memories.  When the third year comes, memories aren't easily blocked or ignored and the survivor realizes the extent of the abuse.  Some become enraged and fight against it and some will kill themselves.   Program related deaths occur years after discharge from the RTC.  If a "later" program death is caused by the condition/complaint treated by an RTC, the program may not be legally liable but their treatment was an obvious failure.  The programs like to limit treatment related fatalities to "shortly after the program" - they do the damage and know how long it takes to set in.

Good band, and all I've heard is the Air Age Anthology... Do they play "Panic In The World" on this one?

Good album, and one of my favorites by them...got the LP.

Whassup Froderik?  This Be Bop Odeon show is a boot of an FM broadcast and it lacks "Panic In The World" which is a shame.  That song's bass line sounds like it was lifted from "Heroes".  It does have a great version of "Blazing Apostles" and Bill Nelson bitching about all the record industry people in the crowd.

I'd like to ask former staff or program survivors about PV pre-1999:  When were the cabins built, as well as the girls' STU?  It seems something happened around 98-99 that enabled PV to slide onto Federal property:

PV had backing from a corrupt, murderous alcoholic named Sen. Carl Koella:

http://www.deadlyroads.com/believeitornot.html

Quote from: "deadlyroads"
On October 22, 1996, after receiving an "advisory letter" from the DMV two years before warning that his license was about to be revoked due to excessive "points, Tennessee State Senator Carl Koella struck and killed 52 year old Terry Barnard, retired General Motors engineer and motorcyclist. After stopping to see that Barnard was dead, he is said to have admitted his guilt to others that had stopped, then drove home. The case was handled in the typically "good old white boy" system that has sadly given the South its redneck stigma. Although indicted by a grand jury for felony hit and run, the Senator was slapped on the hand and sentenced to 30 days of community service after pleading no contest to misdemeanor hit and run. On January 14, 1998, still serving Senator Koella died of heart trouble, having served 26 years in office. Months after his death, his insurance company settled a wrongful death lawsuit for $1.5 million.

On April 7, 1999, to honor the former Senator, Tennessee legislature passed and Governor Don Sundquist signed Senate Bill 923, sponsored by Koella's chosen successor. This bill did not rename a state building, or a state park, or another state project to honor his 26 years of service. No, the state of Tennessee, in what many outside the state called completely callous, designated "that segment of Interstate Highway 140 beginning at its intersection with Interstate 40 in Knox County to its terminus at U.S. Highway 321 in Blount County is hereby designated as the "Senator Carl O. Koella, Jr.. Memorial Highway" as a lasting tribute to this exemplary public servant".
    *
Note - before turning in front of Terry Barnard later that evening, Senator Koella had visited Rockford, Tennessee with Governor Sundquist. In 2002, the Rockford Police Department was disbanded after a police sergeant was charged with intentionally swerving into the path of a motorcyclist, killing him.

Well, what did you expect from a guy who was Peninsula's greatest patron?  It took connections to get the Park land for PV, even more to cover it up.  He got a Covenant job for Chad Clabough, the son of one of his cronies (see above "Clabough"), as a lobbyist.

No wonder they squirm the more we get into who owns the land PV blights.  We're getting closer, act.da.

The nebulous reputation and ungodly tuition of of PV has decimated the program's admissions.  Check with the admissions department and they'll still try to sell the program to a parent until the last moment.  Then PV will cry and send all the kids left  to Merridell Achievement Academy in Texas for debriefing .

The Slickee Boys, and now 9353!!! The first song I ever heard by them was on that "Bouncing Babies" compilation: "We had so many chances in life, we had so many chances..." I remember both of these local bands being around like it was yesterday. Back then the Slickee Boys had made buttons, and i used to see some of the older Baltimore punks wearing them pinned to their jackets. I saw 9353 play at the ol' Marble Bar (on Franklin St. in the basement of the historic Congress hotel). Afterward, someone i was with asked the bass player what the name "9353" meant to them; he told us it was the number on some government property or something.

Those are some vinyl classics I picked up.  The best so far is The Effigies, a Chicago band in the early '80's and friends of Steve Albini's.  The Effigies influence on Big Black is really obvious - The Effigies employed a drum machine only and the percussive, compressed clanging guitars had a profound affect on Albini's playing.  (On a side note - why does Albini get no praise for his mastery of full-on Skronk Noise guitar?)  I predict Steve Albini will take the next new member spot in Sonic Youth - first it was Jim O' Rourke, then the Pavement dude.  Bring on Steve Albini next.
