Post by: Anonymous on July 04, 2009, 12:04:00 PM
SENATOR NAN RICH AWARDED "DEMOCRAT OF THE YEAR"
Contact: Kristin Carter, Legislative Aide to Sen. Nan Rich, (954) 747-7933

State Senator Nan Rich, Leader Designate for the 2010 senate session, was named "Democrat of the Year" by the Broward Democratic Party on Saturday night.

Broward Democratic Party Chairman Mitch Ceasar, who presented the award Saturday night, said Rich received the recognition for her years of service to Broward County and the Democratic Party.

"This award was a long time coming, "Ceasar said. "Her dedication to her constituents and her democratic philosophy are both needed and admirable. The Democratic party simply believes Nan Rich is the greatest."

Senator Rich has long been a fixture in state politics, first as an advocate for women's and children's issues, and later as a State Representative. She was elected to the Florida Senate in 2006, and represents a district that stretches from South Dade to Central Broward.

Rich said she is grateful to receive this recognition.

"This is a tremendous honor, Rich said. "In a county like Broward, where we have so many great Democrats, it is especially gratifying to be recognized.

Members of Florida's Congressional delegation joined other Democrats in praising Rich's record.

"I can think of no one more deserving of this honor than my good friend, Nan Rich," said Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, whom Rich succeeded in the State Senate. "Nan's a tireless advocate for Florida's children and seniors, and as Senate President in 2010, she'll play a central role in improving the quality of life for all Floridians."

Congressman Robert Wexler added, "Nan Rich simply exemplifies public service and is unmatched in her commitment to Florida. She's a force of nature on behalf of the Democratic Party and will be a tremendous Senate leader."

Do you have some reason to believe that Nan will take a special interest? Think maybe she'd understand the Manchurian Candidate quip?

Nan appears to be a candidate that needs to business with Crist, at least so long as he is in office. That's not to say that she may not appreciate that quip ... privately.

Fwiw, she appears to be someone who goes to bat for those who cannot go to bat for themselves. Foci seem to be children's heath, seniors, and other social justice issues.
