Peter Gabriel--Digging In The Dirt"

Something in me, dark and sticky
All the time it's getting strong
No way of dealing with this feeling
Can't go on like this too long

[Chorus:]
This time you've gone too far [x3]
I told you [x4]
This time you've gone too far [x3]
I told you [x4]

Don't talk back
Just drive the car
Shut your mouth
I know what you are
Don't say nothing
Keep your hands on the wheel
Don't turn around
This is for real
Digging in the dirt
Stay with me, I need support
I'm digging in the dirt
To find the places I got hurt
Open up the places I got hurt

The more I look, the more I find
As I close on in, I get so blind
I feel it in my head, I feel it in my toes
I feel it in my sex, that's the place it goes

[Chorus]

I'm digging in the dirt
Stay with me I need support
I'm digging in the dirt
To find the places I got hurt
To open up the places I got hurt

Digging in the dirt
To find the places we got hurt
[x7]

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds "RED RIGHT HAND"
« Reply #376 on: February 10, 2007, 04:17:28 AM »
Take a litle walk to the edge of town
Go across the tracks
Where the viaduct looms,
Like a bird of doom
As it shifts and cracks
Where secrets lie in the border fires,
In the humming wires
Hey man, you know
You're never coming back
Past the square, past the bridge,
Past the mills, past the stacks
On a gathering storm comes
A tall handsome man
In a dusty black coat with
A red right hand

He'll wrap you in his arms,
Tell you that you've been a good boy
He'll rekindle all the dreams
It took you a lifetime to destroy
He'll reach deep into the hole,
Heal your shrinking soul
Hey buddy, you know you're
Never ever coming back
He's a god, he's a man,
He's a ghost, he's a guru
They're whispering his name
Through this disappearing land
But hidden in his coat
Is a red right hand

You ain't got no money?
He'll get you some
You ain't got no car? he'll get you one
You ain't got no self-respect,
You feel like an insect
Well don't you worry buddy,
Cause here he comes
Through the ghettos and the barrio
And the bowery and the slum
A shadow is cast wherever he stands
Stacks of green paper in his
Red right hand

(organ solo)

You'll see him in your nightmares,
You'll see him in your dreams
He'll appear out of nowhere but
He ain't what he seems
You'll see him in your head,
On the tv screen
And hey buddy, I'm warning
You to turn it off
He's a ghost, he's a god,
He's a man, he's a guru
You're one microscopic cog
In his catastrophic plan
Designed and directed by
His red right hand

(organ solo)

Extra verse from dj spooky remix (from scream 2 soundtrack):
He'll extend his hand, real slowly for a shake
You'll see it coming toward you, real slowly for a shake
(grabbing at your peril buddy? ) cause you know you ain't
Getting near much as he will take.

He's a...

He's mumbling words you can't understand
He's mumbling word behind his red right hand

It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don't matter, anyhow
An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on
Don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

Sit down here with me, I'll tell you all I know
Of golden mountainsides, and stories Mama told.
You know that life will take you on the wildest of rides,
But you can take your time, 'cause time is on your side.
I believe that happiness comes and goes away.
If you try real hard you can find it every day.
You've got to learn to live before before you can live to learn.
If you got time to talk it over, I've got one more to burn.
And you turn around and turn around, while life just passes by.
And you turn around and turn around, still reaching for the sky.
And you turn around and turn around, you got to get ahead.
Mama said, "There's a gold mine up on hte mountainside,
But you never gonna get it if you never gonna try."
I know the time will come when I'll be here no more.
Don't forget me when I head out the door.
'Cause I'll be back to claim my share of gold.
And I'll have one new body for my same old soul.
SCHWA!

Yankee soldier
He wanna shoot some skag
He met it in Cambodia
But now he can't afford a bag

Yankee dollar talk
To the dictators of the world
In fact it's giving orders
An' they can't afford to miss a word

I'm so bored with the U...S...A...
But what can I do?

Yankee detectives
Are always on the TV
'Cos killers in America
Work seven days a week

Never mind the stars and stripes
Let's print the Watergate Tapes
I'll salute the New Wave
And I hope nobody escapes

I'm so bored with the U...S...A...
But what can I do?

Move up Starsky
For the C.I.A.
Suck on Kojak
For the USA

I'm behind you
You don't see me
I watch you
When you are near me
You say words
The sound is missing
I just look and watch and listen

Sound on sound (3x)

Love is just
infatuation
You are me
and I am you
Looking back
it's just reflection
It's just something else to do

Sound on sound (3x)

I see it all before me:
the days of love and torment;
the nights of rock-and-roll.
I see it all before me.
Sometimes my spirit's empty;
don't have the will to go on.
I wish someone would send me
energy.

Give me something.
Give me something to give.
Oh, God, give me something:
a reason to live.
My body is aching.
Don't want sympathy.
Come on. Come and love me.
Come on. Set me free.
Set me free.

The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul.
He leadeth me through the path of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me.

Hey, Lord, I'm waitin' for you.
Oh, God, I'm waitin' for you;
waitin' to open Your ninety-eight wounds
and be Thee, be Thee.
Lead me, oh, lead me.

Leave me something.
Leave me something to live.
Oh, God, give me something:
a reason to live.
I don't want no handout;
no, not sympathy.
Come on. Come and love me.
Come on. Set me free.
Set me free.
Come on. Set me free
Set me free . . .

Oh, I'm so young, so goddamn young.
Oh, I'm so young, so goddamn young.
Oh, I'm so young, so goddamn.
Set me free.

In the presence of my enemies,
Thou anointest my head with oil.
My cup runneth over.
Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life.
And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Ah, damn, goddamn, goddamn, goddamn.
Here I am.

I'm sorry Dolores
Your turtle is dead
You don't have to go to school
So just stay in bed

We knew that you loved him
It's easy to tell
We want to make a belt buckle
Out of his shell

All the days you spent together
All the dreams you dreamt together
Eating worms through stormy weather
Like two birds of a feather

So telll us the answer
A yes or a no
Can we use him as a belt buckle
Or should we just go

He's useless to you now
So give us the stiff
We'll let you wear him now and then
He'll never be missed

All his little life and splendor
Stretched and varnished on our leather
Perhaps a ring or broach is better
Cause' your turtle could not be deader

I'm sorry Dolores
Your turtle is spent
We got proof and evidence
That we're innocent

Amen, amen

Wicked As It Seems
(K. Richards/S.Jordan/C. Drayton)

It's just as wicked as it seems
Just run out of dreams
Better of two evils, babe
It's one time too much
Baby how can I say what's in my heart - what's in my heart
Come a long way, well since you beat it up

As wicked as it seems yeah
Why don't you get - get all over me
Why don't you get - get all over me
Just a two way street, but now it goes one way
And now for me there's no way out - one time
Why don't you get - get all over me

As wicked as it seems
It's playtime, but it's far too late
It's gone too hard on, hard on it - hard on it
What you gonna give
It's not enough, not enough for me
So I soften the blow, so the bruises don't show
I've got the expertise
No broken necks
No broken hearts
Well, we used your deck
All I did was play the cards - now the check
Now I find it's not enough - it's not enough for me
Now you want to give, is not enough - not enough for me

As wicked as it seems
Why don't you get, get all over me - one time
Why don't you get, get all over me
It's easy getting in
Why don't you get, get all over me
But it's a hard way out babe
Why don't you get - get all over me

Zen Arcade...Husker Du
« Reply #384 on: April 02, 2007, 12:21:34 AM »
I'm tired, but these lyrics keep going through my head... When I hear Zen Arcade now, after running into the fucking absolute evil of Peninsula Village, the lyrics have new meaning.  This is a kid who could be headed for a program, and it's obvious in the song he's got problems, but it's fucking apparent who caused the damage, and they're not being shipped off to be "broken down and built back up".  This Husker Du album will get you, if not the first time, it'll insinuate it's way in.  Read the lyrics as you listen...

"Whatever"

He lives in his imagination, with those friends of his very own
He doesn't get along with the outside world, he'd rather be alone
Sometimes, when it's late at night, he starts to wonder why
(The plans he made can never happen, so all he does is cry).

His parents, they can't understand why their son, he turned out wrong
He runs away from all the pain and forgets them when he's gone
He'd rather be all by himself because his plans, they seem the best.
He finally gets the nerve one day and now life becomes a test.

Mom and Dad, I'm sorry
Mom and Dad, don't worry
I'm not the son you wanted, but what could you expect?
I've made my world of happiness to combat your neglect.

This one hits home for a lot of kids.  How do you relate to what you've grown to hate?

"Broken Home, Broken Heart"

I look at your house
I wonder what goes on inside
When you have to cry yourself to sleep at night
Your parents fight
You don't know who's wrong or right
Have to cry yourself to sleep at night

A broken home, a broken heart
When the two of them will have to part
Broken home, broken heart
Now you know just how it feels
To have to cry yourself to sleep at night

A lot of Husker Du fans think New Day Rising is their best work, but Zen Arcade, to me, is their masterpiece.

You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down
You just stood there grinning

You got a lotta nerve
To say you got a helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
The side that's winning

You say I let you down
You know it's not like that
If you're so hurt
Why then don't you show it

You say you lost your faith
But that's not where it's at
You had no faith to lose
And you know it

I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd
You're in with

Do you take me for such a fool
To think I'd make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don't know to begin with

You see me on the street
You always act surprised
You say, "How are you?" "Good luck"
But you don't mean it

When you know as well as me
You'd rather see me paralyzed
Why don't you just come out once
And scream it

No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief
Perhaps I'd rob them

And now I know you're dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don't you understand
It's not my problem

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you

I'm too terrified to walk out of my own front door,
They're demonstrating outside I think they're gonna start the third world war,
I've been to my local head shrinker,
To help classify my disease,
He said it's one of the cases of acute schizophrenia he sees.

Well the milkman's a spy, and the grocer keeps on following me,
And the woman next door's an undercover for the K.G.B.,
And the man from the Social Security
Keeps on invading my privacy,
Oh there ain't no cure for acute schizophrenia disease.

I've got acute schizophrenia, paranoia too,
Schizophrenia, schizophrenia,
I've got it, you've got it, we can't lose,
Acute schizophrenia blues.

I'm lost on the river, the river of no return,
I can't make decisions, I don't know which way I'm gonna turn,
Even my old dad, lost some of the best friends he ever had,
Apparently, his was a case of acute schizophrenia too.

I got acute schizophrenia, paranoia too,
Schizophrenia, schizophrenia,
I've got it, you've got it, we can't lose,

They're watching my house and they're tapping my telephone,
I don't trust nobody, but I'm much too scared to be on my own
And the income tax collector's got his beady eye on me,
No there ain't no cure for acute schizophrenia disease.

No there ain't no cure for
Schizophrenia disease.
