Not to brag, but I made it back to Atlanta from RMA in 1994 and the guy I split with got all the way back to Germay (where his birth Father was).  He never came back.

I on the other hand made the decision to meet my parents after a few days back in town.

Setup.  Back to Ascent, then RMA.  I always wonder how things would have worked out for me if I had just stayed with friends and never contacted my family again.

I figure I wouldn't have done as well as I am doing now, but who know?

The guy I split with had a father in Germany who didn't have custody.  He didn't want him there.

We hitchhiked to Sandpoint, he called his father and he set us up with a room at the Clearwater Resort.  Best night of my life.  Success was had.  I was eating room service burgers and smoked like 2 packs of smokes in about 8hrs.

His dad was very rich and very capable, so he had us set up with a driver and 1K in cash by the next morning.  He went to LAX were his dad's buddies hooked him up with fake documents and then was flown into Switzerland via Luftansa, then smuggled into Germany via car.  Pretty f'ing crazy.

I took the money, bought a ticket cash at the Spokane airport and flew back to Atlanta.  Stayed with a buddy of mine for a few days until his Mom got spooked and wanted me to try and convince my parents to let me stay home.  They of course didn't have any idea were I was and had North Idaho PI's looking for me.  The look on thier faces when I rang the doorbell was priceless.  After all that I owned them for that second.

They acted like they were considering my pleas to stay at home and all that.  Secretely they were in contact with the school and Ascent.  Looking back on it - you have to question just how much influence the school had on them.  They had just finished losing track of thier son and here he is a week later on the other side of the continent.  Why in the world would you trust these guys?  Anyway, they did and were convinced to have the PI's come to Atlanta and pick me up.

The rouse was that me and my father were going to a movie.  We went to see "Gettysburg" which is like a 4 hour movie.  In retrospect I should have known something was up - my dad never went to the theatre and he kept talking about weird shit that night.  When we pulled back into the garage the handcuff boys were waiting.  Hooked me up and tossed me in a rental car.  Spent the night in a local motel handcuffed to the bed.  Next day back to Spokane, Sandpoint, Ruby Ridge and Ascent,

Can you say "Trust Issues"?  To this day my parents know I will never completely trust them.  We have a decent relationship, but I don't care who was right or who was wrong - you never get over a deceit like that completely.

The split story is actually a lot more intricate and interesting than that little tid bit.

Let me know if you want to know more.

That's a good split story.  More details if  you have them...

The only real problem with splitting was how to stay home once you got home.

If I got home I know I would have had the same experience you had.  I wouldn't be too pissed at your parents or deem them untrustworthy. 95% of parents who drop their kid off are "pot committed" (poker term - not a herb term) to having their kid graduate.

Handcuffed you to the bed? What a bunch of saladtossers. Was it Mike Par or Rich Armstrong? Did you fuck w/them and talk shit to them while you were their captured fugitive? Hopefully you did.

Yes, getting home is only half the battle.  I guess I could have made a life for myself on my own.  My parents weren't dangling a trust fund in front of my face or anything.  But when you are 16 and all of your friends still live at home your options are kind of limited.

Your comment about parents being "pot committed" couldn't be more true (as an avid gambler I picked up on the term immidiately).  These schools spend a lot of time reminding parents that this is "journey" and that you must make it to graduation to be "rebirthed" as a good person.  Anything less and they are told you are going to see your kid dead sooner rather than later.

Pretty fuckin morbid stuff.  A nice angle though.  You have got parents who are scared shitless and feeling powerless, and the schools dangle this "magic solution" at them.  I even had Tony Allmaras tell me one time that from a business perspective selling the graduation or bust angle was a no brainer.  Probably the most honest thing the guy ever said.

And yes, I did give the bounty hunters guys hell.  I can't remember thier names but the funniest part was this - We were in a double room at the motel and while one guy (looked like a biker dude) slept in a chair propped up against the door, the other guy stripped down to some blue banana slinger underwear and slept in the bed next to me.  I think I asked him if he "planned on jerking it you twisted bastard" or something to that effect.

Good stuff.

My parents were going to send me to Provo if I got kicked out.

I was like "twhaaaaat?". I gots no criminal record beaaatches! Put me behind bars because you guys don't have your parenting shit together?

Unfortunately I could sense that they were pot committed. I knew the ranch had to be slightly better than being behind bars.

Running Away
I ran away for six weeks. Lived on the streets, slept in the forest of Running Springs, ate fruit and vegetables out of peoples gardens, and begged for change. (I think I had $6 of allowance money saved up which lasted all of but a day in the real world.)

Ended up doing some yard work and what not for some cash too.
(After all my work details, I was real good at that)

After all that Bullshit - SIX WEEKS - doing whatever I could to stay the fuck away from Cedu (You'd think that I had made my point?)

I called my parents and they said I could leave Cedu if I just came home. I hitchiked home to South Orange County. That night while sleeping in my bed, I was visited by the fun escorts taking me to do a motha fuckin 21 day. After spending 21 days in 10 degree Idaho weather (November) I was told I could go back to Cedu, lock up in Provo, or stay another week eating fucking mice.

Reluctantly, I chose Cedu for the only rationale other then I could get a bed and food.

My parents were so convinced I needed to be at Cedu. The whole six weeks I was gone, Cedu was actually counseling them and making them think I was probably dead. (SCARE TACTICS?)

At the time, I had the school record for being gone the longest. (9 weeks total from that shithole.) I obviously was dropped a peer group due to missing a propheet. (The Imagine to give you an idea of where I was at in the program)

I was so pissed to get thrown back in there and would run away again 4 months later.

Finally, my mom got the hint and pulled me

Later on, I came to find out that Cedu actually tried to negotiate with my parents to keep me there to graduate and would have moved me back up a peer group if they would keep me there another 6 months. Imagine (Excuse the pun) the bullshit politics that would have come out of that?

You split right before your imagine propheet?

In 1989 the imagine was about 6 months before you graduated.

Did you split that late in the game?  Or did you get there many years later ( after 93') and they changed the timing of the imagine?

damn homey. you waited a long time to get the fuck out of dodge.

I figured if I could make to challenge I could coast the rest of the way.

voyagers and quest were living fuckng hell every second of every day but once I got to challenge I managed to bite my lip hard enough to tolerate it.

what year did you get there?

how old were you when you got pulled?

what did you do the 1st 2 years after you left?

I ran away from CEDU 7 times. The last time I ran away with 2 other girls in my peer group... crystal and Kim. We split right after the Summit. No I was not dirty I was fucking sick of it. I think I got put on bans from the entire school for a day for something dumb and was like I am over this and me ,Kim, Crystal split in the night. My peer group had been combined twice!! ( 89-91) I was there almost 3 freaking years. Jeff, Rodney John were all in my peer group. I believe we were the peer group to bring that place down!!!! Anyways I am the girl that came back tripping on acid. We were gone for three days.  The first night  we met up with some boys and town and they took us to there place burned us down and got us tore up. They were looking for some action. The next day they took us down the hill, and left us at a high school. We met some kids there and we went to the woods and all dosed on acid.  Then some girl took us back to her house and fed us and gave us clothes. We called our parents and after much pleading they got us bus tickets to San Fran. We went to the bus stop the next day, and some dude took me and Crystal around back and smoked us out with a laced joint. I lost my shit!!!! The firemen came cause I could'nt get on the bus, which also brought the PI's. they handcuffed us and dragged us back to CEDU. I was still thrashed. For the next three days we sat in rooms unable to speak to anyone. They wanted to send my peer group on another wilderness challenge to bring us back together. My parents said no and we were all pulled. Shortly after Shannon and Lesli ran away, and shit hit the fan. There were only 5 people left to graduate on stage. I'd love to hear from people in my peer group or anyone else for that matter!!!
peace to you all,
LAura

Not laura brinkerhof are you?

I don't get it. You had a month or 2 until graduation and you split?
Sounds like you still stand behind that decision. Do you still do stuff like that?

A 2nd wilderness challenge in Summitt. Did they ever do that at RS?. That was never mentioned at RMA 1988-1990....

Dishduty

Perhpas it was different at RMA, there are tons of stories of people leaving in the upper school from Cedu RS.

I knew of at least 7 people that left during New Horizons or Summit.
Including myself.

I attended with the Laura in the post above. It is not the Laura you speak of.

Cedu in that era was just on the take. They were about money. They would have gladly arranged a "new Wilderness Summit" and charged the parents an arm and a leg for it.

I split in New Horizons and was pulled after splitting 6 times. (It appears Laura beat my record!)

Upon splitting my 5th time, Cedu dropped me a peer group. In a last attempt to keep me there, Cedu was trying to negotiate with my parents to move me back UP a peer group. (Back to my original) Could you imagine the politcs of that? I still think about it sometimes...I would have taken so much heat in raps if that happened. Not to mention how pathetic it was of the administration. They just wanted more $$$.
