Does anyone know about this "school" in Hurricane, Utah?

Sue Scheff tried to refer our daughter there.

How about you NOT SEND YOUR KIDS ANYWHERE, PERIOD? Thats not difficult!

Unless you were fishing for referrals to see where shed send the kid... in which case no, I dont knowanything about it

Tough Love: Abuse of a type particularly enjoyable to the abuser, in that it combines the pleasures of sadism with those of self-righteousness. Commonly employed and widely admired in 12-step groups.

That's a good enough reason not to send her there.

Boyd Hooper is listed as the Admissions Director. Know anything about him or this program?

This one worries me.  Think it might be a "sleeper" like Whitmore.  No one knows anything about it.  Hope we don't learn about it just because an abuse situation arises.

Sunrise Academy became a part of Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. of Tennessee http://http://www.psysolutions.com/ back in early 2004. They have 34 facilities according to their website.

Although I have not yet put the time in to research any of these programs I will offer my general opinion of this company. From reading both their site and the brief descriptions of the programs, my take was that they wanted to get across, or at least give the impression, that they were aiming more to the medical hospitalization of people.

There were several programs however that either include or target children, and most offered "residential treatment". I will admit that I have become a skeptic of these programs, but one that really raised the red flag was the description given by Manatee Palms Youth Services http://http://www.psysolutions.com/facilities/manatee/index.html of being an "Intensive Residential Treatment Facility (IRTF)".

Also, Sunrise Academy http://http://www.psysolutions.com/facilities/sunrise/index.html is listed as a "Staff secure facility " which I have read elsewhere as the preferred term for "lock-down" facility by the administrators/owners.

I will let you know if I found out anything else.

Do not, under any circumstances, send your child here. I graduated from this program & I have several friends who have graduated, or at least attended, a good number of those evil programs in Utah. They will do nothing but destroy your child's well-being. Even if your child genuinely had problems to begin with, your child will walk away with a hell of a lot more. The majority of the girls in this facility are there because there parents found out they tried smoking pot once. Or, they have an older boyfriend. Those are NOT good reasons to take your child away from everything they know and love for months & even years. Girls lose their minds & their selves in places like this. I know I did. I've been home for a year at the end of this month & I am still haunted by the abuse I saw & endured in this place every day. Also, I know one single girl who I knew from Sunrise who has come home to be sober. And that's not by choice - it's only because she is still a minor & her mother is hair-testing her.

I can't go to college for a long time because all of the money I would otherwise spend on college, is now in the bank account of this god-forsaken place. I'm 18 & I've been working 65 hours a week since I got back to support myself & save money for college because there is nothing else I can do to get my life back the way it was before I got sent away. The 8 months of pain I spent locked away has extended into this past year & I expect it will continue.

A girl who graduated Sunrise right after I got there died recently of an ecstacy overdose. Girls tried to kill themselves while I was there. Staff told them they were pieces of shit. All I could do the whole time to ignore the dark circus going on around me was read books the whole time. One of my best friends went to a program called Crosscreek, which is right down State Street from Sunrise, in La Verkin. Since the year & a half she spent there, she has tried to kill herself 3 times. Before she went, she was a very happy girl. We met when we were 12. We're both 18 now. She & I both share the same agony when we hear of these programs, because we knew each other before & after.

So, please, coming from a survivor - do NOT put your child through the same pain we all went through. Love and understanding is far more effective than $60,000.

For once: Where is it located?

Our datasheet has no accurate address beside the admission office and that is not good enough if a boyfriend or extended family wants to show their support with a little demo on the public street in front of the school.

It seems that they have changed ownership a couple of times and they are now member of the Solacium Group.

We would like to improve our datasheet by having some info about education, living conditions and consequences used in the program. Until resently there was a myspace group with the url http://http://groups.myspace.com/lovelysunrisegirls. Either it is a bug at Myspace or the group have stopped to exist.

Could someone describe more about the nature of the program they use? It seems to look a little like the program structure at New Haven - another of Solaciums private prisons.
