Look, it is NOT easy to get national media attention on a story. You try, you send mail, comment on relavent stories, ask for coverage, give interviews and on and on in the hopes that maybe, with a little luck and persistance, the stars will align while you're holding your mouth just the right way so that your matter of interest becomes one of the few covered by various media.
We haven't failed entirely. Radley Balko really did have Samantha's story on the front of the FoxNews website for a couple of days before the conference two years ago. And the St. Pete Times really and truely did cover it at the same time, drawing a few attendees and sparking some ongoing conversation in their web forums. There have been other minor hits as well. But so far, nothing as major as (IMO) we need to get something done.
Here's another chance. A
chance. That's all. Just a shot. Dr. Phil (quack, quack!) is already covering the troubled parent industry as the best thing since sliced bread. Now another very well known national TV show w/ a broad audience is showing serious interest in covering our side of the story. Nobody's making any promises, exept the producers who promise to cover transportation, lodging and meals for any guests IF they actually find promising guests and decide to film the show.
If nobody steps up, well then they won't do the show. I can promise you that.
I'm telling you, under my own name, that I've gotten a letter by courier (DHL) from the producers and spoken w/ them by phone and checked the phone number, just because I'm probably
almost as paranoid as you are. It's legit. It's not really very far fetched, either, once you know which show we're talking about. They want to cover this issue.
If you're not into spilling your guts in front of a bunch of strangers, fine. Neither am I. I don't think I'd make a very good guest and I said so to the producer I spoke with. But different strokes for different folks, right? Any publicity is good publicity so I'm doing all I can to try and find good guests for this show.
If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.
