GregFL:
Spot on Stripe. Jimmy has a community of people right here who understand what he has been thru, perhaps more so than anyone else could.
And you are so right, none of us were ever worthless and damn few of us were "gonna die" without the seed. However, our young minds didn't really understand that and many people carried around feelings of guilt, shame and worthlessness for years. Also, feelings of impending doom and sadness, and also of course the burden of carrying around a shamefull secret, that we were in rehablilitation. A cruel thing for people who never needed rehab, to label them as a drug abuser or addict and to saddle them with a secret their employers, friends, and children could not know.
Here is something for those carrying around the secret. It need not be. Most people when you tell them the truth will understand. Those that don't haven't earned your friendship. Tell your people that you were forced into rehab when you were just a child, and that it was a mistake your family made, that the world was a little crazy and thought all people that smoked pot would end up as junkies. Tell them the result, how you felt, how it affected your life. You may be surprised to find how freeing that can be.
Just don't tell someone who can use it to wield power over you, like if you have a job sensitive to that information, certainly don't tell your boss or coworkers.
