My husband was there from 89-96 and we he still has nightmares and is in therapy. He was sexually abused, beaten, and worked nearly to death. He has the scars to prove it. His two brothers were sent there as well and one is now blind in one eye because of the abuse he suffered. The other brother just stays drunk to not remember it and we are still called and written to by the former dean of boys who abused him, no one would step forward with my husband to try to stop this but we have heard about Kirk's suit and maybe, finally, something will be done. we even confronted the director of the camp and he said he'd never heard anything about any kids being abused...You'd think the grand jury that investigated them in 87 might have notified him when they were there, eh? Pray forthese people because they touch children's lives and care for no one save themselves..

I'm not a Camp kid, but I went to Harvest Christian Academy in the 80s. Can't say I was surprised that a certain ex-staff member was accused of abuse, only that it took so long for anything to come to light. Even now, people at Harvest don't want to believe anything even though a church staff kid has come forward with abuse charges. I'm wondering now not only how many more Camp kids will come forward, but also how many of the HCA kids will start talking as well.

(I had my run-ins with the alleged abuser in question, but he was just mentally abusive toward me. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd say I got away from Harvest easy; but compared to the Camp survivors, I did.)

I suspect you're referring to me, Wayne Francis (I can't think of another "staff" kid" who actually filed a complaint). I doubt HCA students will be filing any lawsuits; sexual abuse was a rare occurence; and of those who were abused, the statute of limitations creates all kinds of problems.
