Michael Palmer (and son)
« on: October 03, 2004, 05:00:00 AM »
Dear ladies,

I happened upon this thread while researching "Dr." Michael Palmer's connection with Lester Roloff. I am sad to read the experiences of so many women who suffered as girls at the hands of these misguided "Christians". I thank you for sharing with others what you've gone through, I know it's not easy.

I have struggled a lot in many ways with my experiences, and it's nice to know that I'm not alone. I'm a generation younger than you ladies, and I really needed to hear the maturity and the way you speak about what actually happened like adults, and that many of you have been able to separate God from what was force-fed as truth. It's taken me at least eight years to love God again. The Roloff brand of Southern Baptist extremism was never God's idea in the first place!

Please forgive me for posting on your site.
I went to Victory Christian Academy in Jay, Fla around 1995. We had Bible Memo, the routines were probably very similar to Rebekah, some things sound identical. Medicine Call. No Periods for six months. Yes, this happened to just about every girl, the older girls always informed us that it was normal. I believe it was the overwhelming stress, culture shock, and the way a lot of us were brought in. Usually not aware of the situation until we had "30 seconds to say goodbye", or being "escorted"/kidnapped from the home state. Usually California, because that's where the Palmers opened their first school. There was no corporal punishment. Except if a girl tried to run everyone would tackle her to the ground. It was the only exception to the no-touching rule other than holding hands around the prayer circle before meals. I think the Palmers learned from Roloff & Co's experiences that corporal punishment would bring scrutiny to them that they couldn't afford.

I'm not sure if all of you have read the news but on 09/10/04 the Mexican police raided and closed 3 schools, one of which was owned by "Dr." Michael Palmer, Patty Palmer/Genesis Ministries.
I read it on http://www.isaccorp.org.

I would love so badly to be able to help stop this from happening to others. I'm in my mid-twenties, trying to learn how to grow up and be a decent, healthy human being, and I can't believe there's been an endless stream of people going through these Roloff-inspired programs. There very well may be internet sites for teen survivors in twenty years, if we can't get our voices heard by state and government officials.

I'm looking for answers, namely how and why these schools started in the first place.
Please, any information you can give about "Dr." Michael Palmer, his family etc. would be very helpful. I never realized he had been involved in "the ministry" for so long. He used to tell us girls that he had once owned a McDonald's and got busted growing pot on the roof of it before he got saved.

I want to clarify if you mean that the man calling himself "Dr." over in Fla is the same man who ran homes for Lester Roloff in the eighties or if he is the son of the man who was the photographer at Rebekah homes? The son of "Dr." Palmer is also in Jay Fla but also has a real job as a sheriff's deputy. (From what I've gathered).

I don't know why these people are still in business! How many Roloff-style programs are there? What states are they in? Who should we call to have them investigated? Apparently the only way to stop them from moving to another state/country and starting up again is to lock them behind bars. I move for a change of venue too because I'm sure "Dr." Palmer and the leaders like him have the locals in their pockets.
Please email me if you can help.

Thanks for reading this, and hopefully no one's mad at me for posting it here!

The time I spent in Rebekah is very cloudy in my mind... But I thought the Palmer that was over Rebekah in 87 and 88 was Ray Palmer... I don't remember his wife's name.

I just want to say that all of you that have so much bad to say about the Palmer's and VCA- think twice! I was there for 2 years then went home and went back to help out on staff for almost 2 years.  I went back to help because i felt like the girls there deserved to have someone that had really been in their position before to talk to about their experience. All the staff there was helpful and only wanted the best for all the girls. They couldn't perform miracles so of course ere were the ones that wanted to just rebell and go against the whole program, but hey- that was their decision- All I have are good memories and I made great friends there and was showed the difference between right and wrong....Maybe if you had such a bad experience there it is because you were just a BAD SEED! Before you go talking about how bad people are you should look at yourself and what's inside you!!! Victory Christian Academy was an experience that I will never forget and always hold dear to my heart. My love to all the staff that was there and are still there now!!

Stephanie, Stephanie, Stephanie *shaking head*
I did not go to VCA, but I know what these places are like.  I was in Rebekah in the eighties.  You said it all when you commented on going back to work there.  We all thought like you when we got out, that it was the best thing for us, that we would be in jail or dead had we not gone, blah, blah, blah.  It took years for us to realize how brainwashed we had been.  I'm glad it was positive for you.  For your sake, I hope you don't have to go through the detraumatization that most of us faced MANY, MANY years later.

Is this the Stephanie that stole our stuff from storage?  The Stephanie who let the people she liked break the rules?  The Stephanie who kissed ass so much that no fucking wonder she had a great experience there?  The Stephanie who pretended to be someone's friend and then ratted them out, but blamed it on someone else?

I'm so glad you're here to defend VCA.  I'd like to hear all about how much VCA has changed your life.

Hey Steph,

Do you and Heather still get together and steal stuff?

You were JR Staff for all of like, 6 months?

You stayed on Junior staff to help because you had graduated and your parents weren't ready for you to come home!

You should be the last person to talk. After you left (after stealing personal storage items from most of the girls who were there at the time) we weren't even supposed to talk about you. I think it's great that you're defending Mike Palmer. Way to go!

YOU were a "BAD SEED" then, and your post proves you'll continue to do what it takes to take care of yourself first at the expense of truth, friendships and general decency.

I'm glad you finally showed up. I've waited a long time to speak up about the ridiculousness of the whole JR Staff experiment. You and Heather should still be ashamed of yourselves, because we haven't forgotten who and what you are.

Kelly Brown
VCA 93-95

Happily married and adjusted, no thanks to VCA.

you are so full of shit, Stephanie. If the people who didnt agree with VCA are just "bad seeds", then the Palmers growing a whole bad tree! There's a lot more of us and a lot less of you. Im sorry they did such a good job of brainwashing you that after all this time, you still think they're the best thing since white bread. This place couldn't be that good if there are as many people as there are trying to shut this hell hole down. Im one of them. So you can tell your little boyfriend Bro. Palmer that. Give him my name, too- Jami Dinkel. I am not scared, I am not alone, I will not fail.

Stephanie,  I was a new girl when you were on your way out of VCA.  You were there for my "intake".  You were FAR from the good image you are trying to portray.  You were rude, demanding and horrible to me and I showed no kind of resistance in the first place! I was lucky enough after awhile at VCA to see that girls like you were the minority, not the majority.  Necy Linan circa 1995

What do you mean "think twice!" Or what? No I dont think so, see we arent there any more and our thoughts and words can be said freely. No one here will double check what we write and only let positive things be said unlike while at the school where all we could say were positive things true or not. Nothing will happen to any of us here if we speak the truth. We can freely say that it was HELL, that it caused more damage then any help it ever couldve. No one will stop us from voicing the realities that we lived. Not you Stephanie and yeah and I know who you are and not any one else. This is reality, this place messed up alot of lives so maybe its you who ought think twice before standing up for this place that does so much wrong all in the name of God.

The man who ran Happiness Hill was Bro. Raymond Palmer and his wife Kaye. They were very loving and caring people. It was not Mike Palmer.
