Five phases or two phases? More questions about the seed?

(1/2) > >>

Kathy:
I just posted parts of the H.E.W. grant rewarded to Art Barker in June of 1972. http://www.the8thStep.com (page "The Seed") In it there is a 'program description.'  He describes the intake process and first phase, then a second phase where you go back home and back to school or work, for 3 months until graduating.  Did you all have the '5 phases' like straight or did you only have 2?  The avg program in Straight was approx 18-24 months, how long was it in the SEED?
And did this change from those of you who were in the SEED in the very beginning, to those of you who were in towards the end? Also did Art use the 7 steps or the 12 steps?

Oh and who were the first clients of STRAIGHT, INC. were they current SEED clients? Or did they start recruiting off the street.  And the first "peer staff" in Straight, were they former 'seedlings?'

Thanks,
Kathy

The Seed was basically Divided up like this

Newcomer
olcomer
oldtimer
jr staff
senior staff

The five phases were developed during straight

Art used the 7 steps

The first clients of straight were not seedlings but the first staff members were seedlings mostly from Lakewood High.

Kathy:
Thanks for the info.

Newcomer and oldcomer sound about the same as when we were in Straight but What was the definition of an oldtimer?

Do you have any idea how straight acquired the first STRAIGHT clients? Don't you have to have a "group" before you have "Group Therapy?"

Did the seed have that stupid beltlooping that STraight had? [ This Message was edited by: Kathy on 2004-07-17 08:49 ]

in the seed, they put their arm around your shoulder wherever you went when you were a newcomer and pulled you close when you were outside or near a door. Beltlooping was some kind of refinement in that restraint technique.

The first newcomers? shit, the Straight was just seed parents that had mega experience recruiting newcomers. No problem getting clients.
