How can a stepmother legally enroll a non-custodial child into a boarding school??? For $50,000 no less!

Mybe since the stepmother has the same last name as the child the program assumes that she is actually the mother.  

Where is the father?  Or the real mother?

I'm not a member of the Bar, but the way I understand things...


A non-custodial stepmother can't do anything with a child,  not even a non-custodial natural parent can.   What varies from state to state though, are marital settlement agreements and POAs (Power of Attoney papers), but that would be pretty complicated.  

 What's possible though, is if the last names are the same, the question was never asked.
