Electric sauce was used by Ken Zaretzky when he masterbated in the bathroom. Ken especially used alot of it on laundry day when he would rifle through the female laundry bags seeking out under garments to sniff.

Hi I think I can help. I was there for the sauce era even was in on making a few batchs myself. It consisted of any grabage we could find out of the kitchen made in a mixer sometimes cigs butts were added  but basicly anything... the shit smelled bad! It was used in GM'S sometimes the residents were wearing it, other times standing in pots of it. VERY VERY NASTY to say the least. That shit would dry up on the kids if they had a long enough GM one time they used to tar (it being the tar) and feathered two kids now how sick is that Think I would have braffed myself but never seem anyone do that think they might have been to scared....

Rumors were, the electric sauce often consisted of shit, piss and puke, spit, etc.

Bullshit.

The worst you got was milk, eggs, some garbage, food items mostly, blended all together.

I dont remember what the message was...I think it was an attempt to show people what they would be forced to eat, and live in if they didnt conform to Elans life lessons and ended up on the streets.

I will trust that the sauce was a kitchen concotion(sp). I have read about it several times and never have heard my son who is there now talk about it. He is over 18 and chooses to stay, so I know nothing like this takes place NOW. It sounds like something I would have had fun making at that age, but I would have lost my lunch if having ever received this. THANKS.... :nworthy: CCT

I know for a fact they stop using it shortly after or even while I was there, when I went over to E-6 I cant recall it ever being used. Iam not sure what their reason for it was. But there were some kids at that time who lived in it like J.S.anyone form 3 at that time will know just what Iam talking about... things were sick and out of hand and they knew it!

Yes Artman,  My son is a student there NOW and has been for 18 months.  I had no choice but to send him there.  He would have been dead otherwise, and he will be the first to tell you that. He was a low lying dirt ball. Stealing,  picking pockets, selling pot and growing it, in trouble with the police, not attending school and living homeless at a truck stop. His hygine was nasty too.  I could go on and on. I am 42, I did drugs too.  Pot,coke, speed (ironically, I take Adderall now for my ADD).  I didn't do drugs everyday like my son, and I went to school.  There is a big difference, and a Mom will do anything to save the one she loves. He is 18 and he can leave anytime he wants. He knows he is in a better place. He is finally learning academically, and how to stay off drugs.  How old are you & how old are your kids?  Why did you go to elan anyway? He is NOT being abused and never has!  Don't even try to make me feel like shit for saving my son because you will be wasting your time and mine too.  I've been through enough. CCT

Here is the deal as I see it. If Elan has worked for your son, there is nothing greater than that. pERIOD. yes, there is a lot of controversy surrounding Elan, and if you put a group of troubled teens together there is bound to be problems. The place has come a long way in the past decade, I began to see changes as I was leaving. Over the years there have been incidents of abusive staff, and methods that should not have been used. I have always felt that the concept of Elan is a good one, the problem was the manner in which it was carried out. Another thought I have is that it is difficult to find staff that is trained and aoppropriate in the middle of nowhere, especially for themoney. I do not forgive or justify the injustices that have befallen many through the years, and I know for a fact there are staff that care and do good work. If it has helped your son, I am glad and everyone on this sight should support that and be happy that the same horrors they experienced did not happen to him. That being said, I still do not feel that the institution should get a free pass for what has occured, and I wish those who have done damage could be held accountable. Understand please that many Elan survivors went through all sorts of differnet abuse, and the memories still burn. What scares me the most is a Elan saying, "those who forget the past are doomed to relive it". If that is true I pity the kids who end up there when it happens.
