good,Jordan. And you?

I got to tell ya it's a big disappointment that the film won't be made.

I do understand that it was a major committment of time money and emotions. Hopefully someone else will do it. Its a story that should be told.,
Maybe it's time for one of those news magazines again .

All the best

Robert

xres...I was shocked to see the word "Laconia" in your post. I grew up going to Loudon and Wiers beach...became a ritual NOT to go anywhere during bike week because it ended up getting too crazy back in the late 70s.  I could hear all the racing going on from my grandparents house on a tiny little lake hidden in Loudon. Dont remember the name of it, but it was in a place called "Sherwood forest" Im in awe at the fact that it is a NASCAR circuit track with what used to be known as winston cup racing going on there. NASCAR bores me...cant stand it, but back when it was a dirt track and you could sit a few feet from the cars wizzing by throwing clumps of clay at you it was exciting as a kid.

My other grandparents lived on Winepesaukie. My grandfather purchased one of the first deeded lots there with 400 ft of shore to call his own, paid for with US post office wages. Was on the Gilmanton. side Lots of fond memories there in Laconia...castle in the clouds Im sure seems a lot bigger in my memory than it really is, but I enjoyed going there several times fantasizing as a kid what it would be like to be King of Wip-a-senaukee. I have only been back to NH twice since leaving in 87 bound for California. I recall hearing something about all the beach shops and boardwalk burning to the ground years ago...maybe you could enlighten me. Im sure none of it looks the same as it did when I was a kid. All my grandparents are now gone, none of the property stayed in the family, and "bike week" seems like a lifetime ago. I sure miss a lot of things about New England.

So who are you and where do you live?

Im Doug. 1982 to 1984 Elan 3 and 7

Hi Doug,my name is Jim Spencer,I was all over elan from 81-82.I was in 7 and re-entry staff in 8 for a short time in 82.Some of my peers were moved to elan 3,H Harrison,T Sarick,S Nehrling come to mind, but they were probably gone when you got there.I live and work in the loon mountain area.My son lives in gilmanton.I have lived around here on and off since 1985,and I don't remember much about the fires at Weir's but it seems like something happened years ago.The beach shops and arcades are old as hell.Lots of huge old houses too.I don't think it was anything major.Bike week has gotten huge over the years to the tune of about 800,000.It's a freakin mini Sturgis.[ This Message was edited by: xres8182 on 2004-06-17 12:06 ]

Hey Jim. I remember the name and I think we've spoken before.

E-7 dorms were the second to the last building going towards the lake back then, just below it was the e/7 womens and re-entry womens dorms split down the middle. Anyway, When you were in 7, did you have the small room with only one bunk in it by the back door?

I remember talking to you when I was a new resident.

Anyway, nice to see your ok...Keep in touch (my email is posted..I think its in a thread called "pro-elan asshole"
