Just because a person doesnt broadcast or post what he or she is doing or has done,in no waymeans they have done nothing.i have sent an email or 2.wrote a letter or so.. and held up my end of an argument about the abusive issues we discuss.
dan is right there are some apologists out there that refuse to admit to or talk about the deplorable conditions that we as "residents" lived under..
Joe was nuts ... truly.. i dont think he started that way but what he became had a direct effect on many of us
if this thing gets off the ground it will be about us survivors.. nothiing else... the key issues will be credibility...getting through all the bs and finally sitting in a courtroom only to be destroyed on the stand is not where i want to be.
Mental heath is gonna be an issue,and i believe that our approach will need to be that of businesslike not emotional cripples.we are not kids anymore and whatever problems we have will not be solved with money.feeling better is an inside job (so i hear )and cant be better with a dollar... our time will come when god is good and ready and not one moment b4.. my responsability will be to accept the things i cannot changeand put some faith the right direction... even if nothing comes outa it,i know whats right and wrong and what direction my life is gonna go
doug was in fact right about one thing ... theres alot of choices out there ... which way to go is also an inside job

The key is mental health and you are right...why?
Because...in the early 70's and 80's, the pyschiatric community
(Dr.Davidson, Harvard, McClean Hospital et al) suspected that there
was a relationship between genetic coding, brain chemistry and behaviour
disorders.
The argument for me is simple: Anyone displaying behaviour problems
does NOT deserve then...or now..to have been sent to a "treatment
center" like Elan, Synanon etc. Nor is/was there a justification for
"tough love" boot camps.
In my opinion, and after 13 years of being intimately involved in this
discussion, speaking with Elan Survivors and other survivors of abusive
treatment centers...you were MISDIAGNOSED that boarders on malpractice.
And frankly, in my opinion, it was malpractice on the part of Dr.
Davison and others who referred trouble adolescents to Elan and other
places like Elan with a monetary commission or finders fee involved.
The same "acting out" behaviour in 1975 that sent you to Elan...is now
controlled by medicine to adjust "brain chemistry" imbalances.
So why does Elan exist? It shouldnt and that's why it has to be shut
down (along with all other abusive centers and tough love camps) and
hence the reason for this site.

HHMMMM....
The best way for you to know why I'm involved is to read the Book I
publsihed about Ricci and Elan...it also contains my motivation and that
of the author, Maura Curley.
We did a big disservice to Elan Survivors in helping to market Elan
nationwide back in early 80's...we also handled Ricci's advertising,
marketing and PR for 3 yaeres. I managed his 1st gunernatorial
campaign....until Maura and I realized that we made a huge ethical and
moral mistake dealing with Ricci.
We owe, forever, the time needed to undo this wrong. It's that simple.
Not only for Elan but the whole nationwide system of abusive treatment
centers must be shut down.
I would not have spent over $50,000 and nearly 3 years of my life and
that of Maura Curley's for any other reason.
