There are many more disturbing elements to this case than were reported in the news.
First, the victim was an employee who had complained to the owners of this "home," that he did not think they were doing their job. According to previous news reports, he was plannign to leave and possibly complain to the authorities. The counselor was not supposed to be there alone--the law required two counselors. The owners of the home had good reason to shut him up. If those kids reported that the counselor was in trouble, why didn't the owner do something about it before several hours passed?
Second, that home was nothing more than a rip-off money machine and was operating illegally. The owner was raking in more than $50K a month, paying the help almost nothing, didn't have the required staff on site, and were providing no services to these kids other than warehousing them. The kids were reportedly still obtaining drugs. If you ask me, the owner of that house was probably selling the drugs to them--why not make a little more profit?
Third, the owner of that home had been refused accreditation because of his family connections to other questional group homes. To me, this smacks of organized crime.
Fourth, the adults in charge should be held fully responsible. These kids were not being counseled. Were they were even in school? As minors, the adults in charge ARE held responsible for the death of the counselor. The owner should be the one sitting in jail.
Make no mistake, I believe the kids who actually killed Mr. Arnett should be held accountable, but the owner of the home is fully culpable. HE was the adult involved. Clearly, he was ripping off the people who paid to send their kids there. That home was nothing more than a money machine (as apparently are all or most of the others like it--a perfect scam for organized crime--heck, anyone with enough money to buy a cheap little house can play that game and retire young).
Why isn't the owner being charged with a variety of crimes? Where is he now? Living high, no doubt, on what's left of the hundreds of thousands of dollars he collected while the gravy train lasted.
(seems like many are getting more information on this)
