WWASPS v. PURE
« on: February 03, 2004, 08:43:00 PM »
Folks, good news!  The PACER system now offers instant registration.  If you are interested in following this case, click on the link below. Once you are registered, the court records can be found by clicking on DISTRICT and then UTAH.  Enter the party name (e.g. PURE or World Wide Association).

http://pacer.psc.uscourts.gov/

Anybody interested in legal issues as they relate to the teen help industry, in general, should find this resource (PACER) quite useful.

Lawsuits are News.

I've noticed the teen "help" industry is very thin skinned and prone to thinking what it does is just its own very private business.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  When you offer behavior mod treatment to the public, particularly inpatient behavior mod, *everything* you do except for issues of patient confidentiality is the public's business.

Mental, behavioral, and other medical treatments quit being the strictly private business of providers about the time that society realized Patent Medicines and people practicing medicine without a license were problems---if not then, then *at least* by the time Nellie Bly blew the lid off patient mistreatment in insane asylums.

It is very much the business of every single voter in this country what you guys do to teens in those facilities----whether they're being provided with quality care, or not.

This lawsuit is part of the pattern of unfolding scandals surrounding these facilities, and voters who pay attention to it to inform themselves and keep up with this important public health issue are just being good citizens.

Carey may not be a perfect paragon of virtue, but in sharing this information on Fornits she's just being a responsible voter.

Thanks Anon, that was a very good post, and yes, I agree that the public has a right and a need to know what's going on in these places, assuming the court record remains unsealed, which at the moment, appears to be at issue.
