Could This Be Part of The Problem?

Bottom line - There is no "ONE ANSWER" and NO QUICK FIX -
Even below average income families admit their children to residential programs - somehow they create the funds - so this may be a valid view, but it's more complex than just affluenza.

this has brought back a BBS memorie:
//Spot barks all night? Ship him to a "pet therapy" resort and get him back all trained. //
Funny how the mind can skip around. I saw this, and thought, I wish! I have worked in an animal shelter. Usually, Spot gets drug in on the end of a leash and left to take his chances; which usually (three out of four times) ends with a big long needle full of poisen in his heart. Any Spot or Rover who actually gets some training is a lucky dog indeed.
But then my memorie kicked in about this BBS post.
This Mom was talking about how much she had sacrificed for her kid. She had dicided after her seminair to live life for herself and was planning to maybe move; but also, to get rid of the kids pets. He had had several and she spoke of how he cared for them. She didn't want to anymore during his absence, and was going to get rid of them.
I was pretty much horrified. How cold did you have to be to dispose of the kids pets while he was away in a program? How selfish and mean! How heart sick and helpless the kid would feel!
I had forgotten this. It was an eye opener.

I agree. Heartless and selfish is the person who would dispose of a child's pets while they are away from home. But then again, hiring some thugs to kidnap a kid to dispose of them in a program somewhere ain't exactly the most humane thing to do, either. Could it be this misguided parent was desperately seeking a "quick fix" to mend her own broken life? I wonder ...
