Would you like to tell your story?
« on: July 10, 2002, 03:30:00 PM »
Hello, I work for an organization  called Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP).  We are interested in hearing stories about what it was like in Straght Inc. or similer organizations.  If you would like to speak at an SSDP conference, or at chapter meetings, and tell your story please contact us at [email protected]

Anyone going to do this?  I wish I were a better public speaker, I would do it if that were the case.  I think my Straight experience only made me more frightened when speaking to crowds.

A few among us are willing to pursue legal action against the principles of Straight, Inc. (AKA DFAF) but they need solid testimony to proceed.

I'd be glad to tell you about Straight at any meeting at any time. I've written an on-line book on Straight. I think what you need to hear is testimony from 2 or 3 of our survivors which we could setup,  and then I could brief your organization on just how pervasive Straight, now calling itself Drug Free America Foundation, and its founders Melvin Sembler, our ambassador to Italy,  and his wife Betty are in formulating national and international drug policy.  This recent US Supreme Court decison to start with, proposition 215, the 1995 decision and so forth.  I spoke with Alexis of your organization today.  And I will be with Ginger Warbis at the protest on July 18.

Readers,  this group wants people to tell their stories.  Let's oblige them.  If you don't tell,  how will the world know? If any Straight legacy program is still abusing kids,  how will we stop it unless we speak up.

I have sent an email to this person.

I would be happy to speak to some people if it could help stop some children from being placed in this abusive situation as I was.

I am also a parent of a teen, a stepparent of a 22 and a 32 yr old. I firmly believe that these programs are not the solution that so many wish they were.
