cmack, you've grasped the fundamental issue.  The Fedayeen in Iraq were quite brutal toward their fellow citizens.  Likewise, the Taliban toward their fellow citizens.  Unfortunately, US and NATO troops have been engaged in brutalizing Iraqis and Afghans who are not their fellow citizens.
