If ChildServ has had issues with runaways from that location before, they SHOULD be investigated. Ankle bracelets or some type of security system where the teens have to enter a code before leaving would/should alert the staff to what is going on. There is no way that child should have been outside at 11:40 pm.smartthinker · 6:58 AM on November 2, 2011
"...Naperville Fire Department thus far this year have answered 417 calls for emergency service at the Sleight Street home..."
REALLY???? 417????? Seems like it is time to re-evaluate the successfulness of this program, no??jenny1465 · 10:20 AM on November 2, 2011
I hate to sound hard hearted, but 417 calls to that home on Sleight? We have homes being burglarized in town and are told by the police they're doing the best they can patrolling, it's a big town, afterall. Perhaps Childserv should be billed for these excessive calls. Or perhaps bill the deadbeat parents of these kids. And for pete's sake, quit using the Metra for the suicides. It's not fair to the employees who have to work there to earn a living.spanky1 · 4:46 PM on November 2, 2011
"for pete's sake, quit using the Metra for the suicides."
What are the proper alternatives?jenny1465 · 6:25 PM on November 2, 2011
Spanky1 - Very smug - however, anything that doesn't involve innocent bystanders and people trying to do their jobs to support their families. And to the last line in the article above.......The "system" has not failed Caitlin, her parents and her family have failed her. The "system" should be the last resort after parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.chilly1976 · 12:28 AM on November 4, 2011
@ jenny1465... I am a relative of Caitlin, and how can you sit here & say that her parents, or anyone else in this family has failed Caitlin? WE didn't fail Caitlin the system & the people at Childserv has failed my baby cousin!!!! What i can't understand is if the people who were bystanders at the train station seen her sitting there, why didn't anyone help her.... I feel that the Childserv Sleight home should be shut down cause obviously they can't do their jobs right. If so, they wouldn't have to have emergency officials called out 417 times... that is ridiculous!!!![/list]

My name is Leslie. I lived at Childserv for about a year in the Downers Grove group home. I am now 19 years old. I knew Caitlin for 3 years. It breaks my heart that t has come to this, but you cannot come down on these kids. These teens are children themselves and don't have the direct support that they need. Many of them, including myself, have left the home and don't return until 4am. These are rebelious times for teens, and we must take it seriously. Where are the parents? you may ask...they don't care. I have never met my birth parents or even had a chance to be told right from wrong, but I have managed to survive and I keep moving on.
