Update on the Mern foster parent scandal: Somebody knew

Some must have covered for the couple accused in the Mern foster parent scandal

From Denmarks Radio:

Children abused for 20 years, by Jes Højen Nielsen, August 1, 2011

Quote
According to the prosecution, a couple from Mern have abused seven foster children, who were placed in their care, over a period of 20 years.

That is evident from the indictment the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police have published today. An indictment that holds a total of 20 counts.
The abuse started back in 1990, according to the prosecution, when the couple over a period of six years locked up two foster children on the first floor of the house several times. The children were at the time two and five years old respectively.

Local teachers did complain when they saw marks on the children. They reported it. The reports are gone but the police investigation will not target this problem. They are "only" going after the parents.

But should it be less criminal to cover child abuse up? The problem is that we don't punish obstruction of justice very serious because people are expected to lie to the police. Somebody is getting off easy. It is wrong because the only motive can be money.
