Senator George Mitchell is also a very good friend of Hyde School. He was also a friend and former associate of the late Senator (and former Maine Governor) Edmund Muskie. Muskie was more than a little integral to facilitating Hyde School's founding in 1966, was on its Board of Trustees, and frequently tooted Hyde's horn in whatever public or not so public venue was available.

As to Senator Bill Diamond, I recently came across reference to him having "worked as a lobbyist for the Elan School"... This was in a 2006 Prison Legal News article on abuses occurring in Maine's Supermax prison in Warren. Senator Diamond, being chair of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee which oversees the state correctional system, had been contacted for comment. Apparently, he did not find the subject of Supermax abuse terribly noteworthy, choosing to instead focus on funding deficiencies and the relevance of people trying to heat their homes in the winter with fuel prices so high.

Elan is really not closed yet because of money they owe (Sharon needed to steal it to replace the bank loan money for the racetrack that she put into the $chool) , and Juan Ferreria is getting ready to open it back up.  Golden Arc is opening a program in Texas and two in Utah
