Glad you made it out intact.

There's serious business behind all this, but I think your approach is a whole lot more likely to accomplish something. Just step over the trolls and flamers like skidrow junkies.

I went at it at Straight over 20 years ago about the same way you did. It took me a very long time to figure out why some kids always rebelled. Then, one day, I had a momentary lapse of insanity and realized that the kid they were beating on that day was not being obstinant. He was catatonic. He could not have complied if he wanted to. But the beating went on and the crowd went wild and I quickly put it out of my mind and started planning a more expedient escape.

I was on the final phase of the program and taking the pre-training for staff course. Not that I had any interest in hanging around a minute longer than I had to. Just that they offered it to me and, well, in that environment and culture, it was an offer one couldn't refuse.

The funny thing is, I could not explain or remember what had so shocked me as to change my plans. Not for years!

You and I and some others had a distinct advantage over most of the kids fed into these thought reform factories. We knew what the game was all about. Most of these kids really didn't. While you and I saw just a major inconvenience between here and the door, other kids were mentally and emotionally destroyed with our full sanction and approval.

Do you understand why some people are blind with rage, even years later? I do. I don't fault them for it, either. But I think they're addressing the wrong party. There are some people who just let it roll off, but there are others who find their calling in the sadistic process of thought reform. There is no sense in trying to appeal to their better instincts. They've long since quelled that part of themselves. What we need to do is to address the sane people in our society, to let them know what really goes on behind euphemisms like "Teen help" and "Emotional Growth" schools.

The most important thing in the programming language is the name. A language will not succeed without a good name. I have recently invented a very good name and now I am looking for a suitable language.
