Lets get back on topic everyone.  The last parent testimonial was this one by DJ:

Quote from: "Whooter"
Quote from: "Dysfunction Junction"
Quote from: "Brain-dead RCS Parent"
Sending him away to RCS 24 months ago was the hardest decision my husband and I ever made!

24 months in kiddie jail, lady?  The "program" is only 12 months and you made your kid do a "double"?  Fascinating and disturbing at the same time...

This goes to show that RCS will keep a kid as long as the parents keep paying.

Quote from: "Brain-dead RCS Parent"
After graduation our son went on to the University of Maine where he majored in Anthropology.  I cannot express how satisfied I am with your staff and how you helped our son.  He is engaged to a wonderful girl and they have plans to marry in the fall.

I am glad things worked out for this family.

But "trying their best to help their kids" means not using the services of the programs which are pure quackery.

Sending Junior to a quack factory isn't "helping".

I agree, here with you a bit DJ, the parents should seek out the best help for their child.  I would not recommend those programs which are quackery or utilize unproven methods.  The parents need to investigate the options available to them and choose a direction which is best for their child and family.

...

Can you provide us names of some programs which are practicing quackery or unproven methods?  I'd like to see your list of programs we should all avoid.

Jill, Ridge Creek School is a school.  It just does not fit cleanly into the states categories because they have kids coming from all over the world.  Some of these kids only stay for 6 months.  The public school system in Georgia has kids go to high school for 4 years .  The kids in RCS may go for 6 months or longer but they receive schooling while they are there, but they are not a 4 year institution.

Seems like an improvement.

They are teaching kids, though, Jill. The state does not have a category for Therapeutic boarding school.  Traditional boarding schools take kids for 4 years. Ridge Creek school takes them for a variable length of time and from different states and countries.

THE STATE MOST CERTAINLY DOES HAVE A CATEGORY - "CCI, CCF, CCOP, DJJ CONTRACT PROVIDER."

SACS HAS ACCREDITATION  AND STIPULATES CATEGORY:

Its  "EDUCATIONAL AGENCIES WITH SPECIAL PURPOSES".   They educate the kids which is a school.  If RCS enrolled the kids for 4 years then they would fit the categories defined by the state of Georgia.  But they are a school which takes kids from various stages of highschool and they stay there from 6 months on up.  We both know that a typical highschool or boarding school takes kids for 4 years so the RCS doesnt fall under the same rule structure as a typical boarding school.  Programs in Massachusetts has the same problem.  The state requires each student to pass an MCAS test prior to moving on to the next grade.  But kids who come in from out of state may be on a different track.. maybe they don't learn about government in junior year, maybe they learn it in the senior year in the state they are from.  So Massachusetts standards do not align completely with other state standards.. so this means that they need to create a special category so that programs can exist and teach the kids in the state.

Why don't you regulars strike a deal with Psy to allow some threads that are Read Only with the Author being the only one with posting privleges.

Something like that already exists. You can write rules to exclude certain people or specify a thread as "survivors only" in your OP.  Just make the disclaimer large enough for the moderators and the excluded to see.  People have a right to free association, and that includes the right to exclude people at will.  I can't figure out why people haven't used this before.

It does not always work, though, Freeofcc.  I had a thread hijacked by Dysfunction Junction the same way right here....  http://http://www.fornits.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=32869.
So if you said "Survivors only", I could just notify the moderators that I was a survivor and then I could post.  At least that is what others could do to post in the thread I started.

What was the biggest surprise coming to Ridge Creek Therapeutic Boarding School?

My biggest surprise was that I really began to like it here. I feel a part of something that is really good for me. I learn every day. I discover new things about myself everyday. It's weird, but great. Also, I discovered that the staff really cares. This isn't just a job for them. They like helping kids learn and grow. Finally, and this is probably the biggest surprise, you can change. You can learn from mistakes and let go of the past and change.
