Finally in November 2005, her parents intervened and shipped her to a wilderness program in Utah called Passages to Recovery, where Bullock was forced to deal with her destructive behavior.

Her boyfriend abuses her, but she's the one with the "destructive behavior"?
Being that he's the violent jerk, why wasn't the boyfriend separated from his family and familiar environment, and sent away for treatment?
Sounds like he needs it.

(Note: yes, I know relationship abuse victims also need treatment to learn how to avoid getting into similar situations in the future. But that's no reason to separate a teenage girl from her family, or send her to a wilderness program-- especially considering the track record of wilderness programs in the area of child abuse, neglect, and death).

The parents could not separate the boy and send him to treatment because they were not his parents.  Outside of fornits people dont view wilderness as a punishment.  Even the girl herself doesnt feel as though it was punishment.  She got a lot out of her time there.  She had issues that she needed to deal with and being around her boyfriend wasnt going to help any.

Besides knowing that she was sent off to wilderness to get help we really dont know what other attempts were made to help her or other options that were on the table.

Outside of fornits people dont view wilderness as a punishment.  Even the girl herself doesnt feel as though it was punishment.

Also outside Fornits people do view wilderness programs as punishment. Remember Caleb Jensen? He was sentenced to a stay in a wilderness program because he broke the law. Across the states you can find a number of courts where they issue a sentence where people have to remain at a wilderness program.

Here in Denmark we had a large scandal where a riot meant that some teenagers were convicted in the end. It was not marketed as a punishment but both the teenagers and also their parents felt that it was. While the boys were convicted in court, the trial was later criticized. The incident had a huge impact on the use of wilderness programs in Denmark. In fact they now take at-risk children to the remote beaches over in Jutland where they relax and get therapy while they built a tan. This approach actually has a higher successrate.

As for the case which triggered this case: Why did girl's parents not ask the police to arrest the boyfriend? Domestic violence must certainly be a crime over there too.

An aqaintence of mine investigates all kinda rape ,incest, molestation stuff for the state, she relates the stuff she has to listen to day in and day out to me in vagaries.Youd be really surprised how various lawyers, try to shift the focus of blame and or guilt to the victim, and that both victims families, and in some instances themselves go along with it .Goddamn unreal. talk about some downright slimy shit. Fuck, I dont know how anybody can do that job, especially for any length of time. How can that NOT jade the fuck out of you, make you NOT believe in anything after a while?
