I went on this website and found the following information quite distubing.. sounds just like another Straight.

This facility is still fully active in Southfield.

     The question that was posed to this answer was:
How is a safe,secure, and healthy environment maintained at the center, and at the host home?
In the initial phase of the program, clients are not permitted to be alone at any time. They are assigned an old-comer (big brother/big sister mentor). They are physically escorted around the building. The facility has limited areas and is monitored at all times. In the event a client acts out, our staff are all trained in non-violent restraint measures. In the evenings and weekends our clients continue to live in a structured environment in the host homes. The homes are a safe, healthy, and loving environment for the young people. Host homes are inspected to be sure that they are safe and secure.

I found this to be quite shocking when I read it.. sounds like the same crap that Straight has implemented.

Sounds to me like we have some problems here, this facility is activily up and running.
Also, you might want to read what happens to 1st and 2nd "phase" children in school! Quite disturbing

That whole website just gave me chills...they make it sound so wonderful...yeah right.

I also read down the list of staff member qualifications.  They try to say that they have degreed staff blah blah....yeah, ONE psychiatrist, and ONE psychologist.  Just like Straight had....and you almost never saw them...if at all.  Its the "Peer Mentors" that run the treatment....they cant possibly do what they say with only two professial people on staff...not for the 100 kids that are probably in there.

They are very informative while at the same time being extremely vauge about the treatment process.  Makes me want to run up there and pull all those kids out and just bring them home with me.

Agreed there Carmel.. if you read further "between the lines" it does say something about staff being in the program and have graduated.. read carefully, it's there!

I thought this also could be some useful information for the upcoming conference in June and also future conferences to come.. unfortunatly I won't be able to attend.
