New drug treatment approach is a huge success
« on: April 05, 2010, 02:56:07 PM »
The financial crisis has resulted in our social services saving a lot of money on drug treatment and it did also make it better.

Instead of shipping a lot of drug users off to treatment facilities around Denmark, they have started to treat them where the drug users live. The percentage of drug users who have quit the use has increased.

Success with addiction treatment in the neighborhood, Denmarks Radio

The story above is from Aalborg. A similar report came from Copenhagen where project U-turn treats younger addicts under 25. It has to take place in the local community in order to remain successful.

And the bonus is that it is way cheaper than any residential solution.

Unfortunately these "systems" never change for humanitarian reasons......
I am glad to see the "financial crisis" has forced their hand.
This has started to happen where I live also.
