New Forum Policies
« on: January 01, 2010, 12:02:28 PM »
Due to the recent flooding of spam, off topic threads, and various sorts of porn, Ginger and I have decided to temporarily (possibly permanantly) ban guest posing.  This does not mean and end to anonymity, however.  You can still register a second account and are not required to give your real name.  This decision did not come lightly but at this point we felt there is really no other choice.  Feel free to ask questions about the reasoning behind this decision here or berate myself and ginger.  That is your right and that will not change.

A friend of mine wrote in a PM

When people pretty much completely stop posting because of the excess of trolling, what is effectively happening is that he (the troll) is moderating the ability of others to post. This is hardly in the spirit of the forum.

At least for the time being, this is the way it has to be.  If you'd like to contact me personally or have problems posting, please email me at [email protected]

It's meant for playing text based RPGs.  You type "/roll" and it rolls a single 6 sided dice.  If you type "/roll 3d6" it rolls a six sided dice 3 times.  If you type "/roll 5d20" it rolls a 20 sided die 5 times.  You get the idea.

Exactly.  People still play that.  Many modern games rely on that basic system behind the scenes but many still do it by hand.

Psy,
Might I suggest we move the blatant troll content to another place within Fornits?
It could be called the Troll Exhibit, and a curator could tend it rather than moderate it.

Flooding gets deleted.  A user flooding to such an extent as we have just seen (two straight pages of active topics) will be banned.  A trash can idea would be nice, but unfortunately it shows up on active topics, making the feature useless.  Maybe there is a way to configure such a forum to not show up on active topics.  I'll see if that can be done.

Hi to everyone, been busy and haven't really had a lot of time for chit-chat. And I just started liking the anonymous thing when you go and change the rules. Go figure? But seriously, this will be cool.

I think it is a very good move overall, even if it is temporary. But you guys already know my opinions about this subject.

I might get a little more involved on this forum just to see if the guest option being suspended makes for a better fit.

Happy 2010 ....a good year to go to prison (or at least be exposed) if you are running a BM program.

Psy, Since we are now all registered users, with confermed e-mail addresses. Are we admitting to a crime if we tell the world "we just"? Remember just because you're paranoid, that don't mean they're not out to get you.

You were before as well, but nobody is going to rat you out.  And as the above guest said, "I just" has a variety of meanings.  "I just" ate breakfast.  "I just" had a Mountain Dew Voltage, which is actually quite good.

Hmm, I suppose so, at least theoretically. Which is one reason why I'm bummed the fuck out over this. We tried to hold out and be the last bastion of drive-by anon posting.

But, I guess that age is long gone. I'd suggest anybody who's really concerned about that level of evidence trail set up a disposable email account on something like hotmail or such like and use that for registration here.
