Diary of a Swine Flu Epidemic
« on: September 19, 2009, 02:26:47 AM »
Day 1:

School was evacuated this morning by direct order of the Education department. I was about 10 minutes into my first class when my boss barreled into the room and told us to send everyone home. Before they left I assigned them their homework of watching tv and playing computer games. Obviously, this went over quite well with them.

Afterwards, we teachers made plans to go watch movies and eat lunch. I've since decided to hang out on my own today as oddly enough my throat is dry and I feel like shit.

yay.

hehehehe..bleh.

I've been to the store to buy food and water and I'll be camping out for a couple days to see how things develope.

Asked my boss before I left and I found out there have been 33 or so confirmed cases in my city.

double yay.

More later, maybe. hur hur hur.

alarmist (president's council) word has it the infection rate in the US could be close to 50%.

My friend says "that's ok, I dont each much pork"
I say "Well, I think  you catch it from people."
He says "That's good. I don't eat people, either." :D

Worst case scenario, according to CDC, is that the mortality rate could be 30,000 to 90,000.

Despite all of this, Im more concerned about taking a supplemental flu vaccine that has been rushed to market in reaction to this thing... so Im not. Ill take the regular one for seasonal flu, but not the one for swine flu. I dont trust it.

Not that seasonal flu is a sweetheart either... I suspect Swine flu is going to go through china like shit through a goose. I bet the kill rate will be in the 100k range.
