These are a few of the reasons why you might want to consider starting your new topic in one of the unmoderated forums that is left on fornits.
1. Ownership. You might work for twenty minutes writing a great, witty post with research and citations. Posting in a moderated forum gives complete control over your words to a moderator. They can delete, edit and move your postings. Do you really feel that you need the equivalent of a publishing editor to go over your post and decide whether it's appropriate or not? Will you bow to authority just because someone with a red name tells you to? You own your words, fornits only provides an outline and place to post your words. Don't give your words to self appointed censors to do what they want with. Own your words. Post them in an unmoderated forum, the Open Free for All or Troubled Teen Industry forums. Your topic will get much more discussion this way.
2. Reality. Do you enjoy reality? Or would you rather that people tell you what they think you want to hear, because they don't want to offend you or the censor of the forum you post in? If you post your topic in a moderated forum, the discussion will be self censored. People posting in moderated forums know if they say the wrong thing, or cross the much debatable line of decency, their post will vanish, so they self censor. This limits discussion. It limits the exchange of ideas. It limits the possibility of the thread you are about to create. If you enjoy reality, and real responses to your ideas and topics, you will want to post in an unmoderated forum.
3. Rejection of hierarchy. Didn't you get enough of peer hierarchy at the program? Then why recreate it on a website? In the program the students who have been their longer will be group leader during group therapy. They will take on a role that symbolizes their superiority in privilege and responsibilities. They might even wear a different colored name badge so the visiting parents at the program know they are approved to talk to parents. Since they have been at the program longer, they know what to say and how to say it. When the new kids attempt to yell at the parents, the privileged class students will intervene. Why create this sort of hierarchy on a forum about programs, perhaps as some sort of inside joke? I don't know.
4. Free speech. The idea of moderated forums really comes about for one and only one reason. People are too fragile to handle the open forums. Sometimes they are made for program survivors. Sometimes they are made for program parents. But the intent is the same, the idea is that the TTI becomes so clogged with "useless discussion" (according to the judgment of an individual) that nothing productive (who decides what is productive?) is getting done. This is how it happens, but the result is never what is intended. Excitement sometimes builds in the beginning and people use the moderated forums. Then they get slower. Then they go silent.
You own your words. Don't give them away to be cannibalized or destroyed. Support free speech by posting in the unmoderated forums!
