There are two things that come to mind:  1- he was court ordered and they didn't pay "the program" but court fees?

Second - for sensationalism to sell the movie, cuz it didn't happen, wouldn't happen, can't happen.

I definitly did not get the impression Ryan F. was court ordered into any treatment program.  In fact, I believe the press reports said his parents heard about the program from friends at church and decided to enroll him in the program.

Carey:
So, what's the reason for the bribe?  If it really took place then both parties are guilty of wrong doing.

Anonymous:
Yes, Ryan's parents were recruited by a member of their church (see link below) but reportedly didn't come to believe they had made a mistake until a couple of former residents contacted them and urged them to take Ryan out.  As for the "ransom" payment of $60,000.00, it's hard to believe any parent would consent to such a thing, must less have the cash-on-hand.  Guess we will just have to wait for the movie, but even then, since the movie is a fictional account based on a true story, there is no way to separate fact from fiction without additional documentation and verification.  As for the media, one can only guess if Weiner triple-checked the credibility of his sources.

Carey:
It seems to all be a farce...Ryan's story, that is.  Fiction...based on fact, how does that make any sense?  Kinda seems like an oxymoron to me.
