If YOU had such a bad experience with SCL, then what motivated your sister to send her kid to the same place? This doesn't make any sense.
It really doesn't make sense does it? I told a neighbor on many ocassions about the nightmare I was experiencing with the industry when my son was incarcerated, against my wishes.
I moved away. She sent her son to a wilderness program about a year later. He died there, from medical neglect.
She just couldn't hear. When parents are desperate to dump their problems, other's warnings are easily minimized.

Being truthful is not a trait of a troubled teen.
Nor, is it a trait of a money-grubbing program with a conflict of interest.
"Parent, buy this progressive academics package. But remember, we will not encourage or support your son in his education....because we're too f-in busy punishing him for looking up or out the window, or speaking without permission. Control is very time consuming, and modifying behavior (abuse) is far more important than ensuring an education."
My son returned from a "college-prep TBS" in Ga five credits behind his peers. He was scoring As and Bs there. Wake up parents. $5000/mo- that's a whole bunch of tutoring and mentoring. You could hire a college student to hang out with your teen every moment s/he wasn't in school. Hell, you could hire a therapist to do the same. Kinda like a nanny for your teen.
