Ode to AARC
« on: March 20, 2009, 02:00:29 PM »
There's a place in the states
That went by the name Straight
That brainwashed kids out of the gate
Addiction, they claim,
Is the name of the game
It was sued and shut down at any rate.

So it reopened with a new name
The program and rules were the same
In New Jersey this time
Without changing design
Miller Newton the doctor to blame

His degree he received in the mail
On him abuse they can't nail
Until someone got mad
And a field day was had
In the courts his new program would fail

High priced lawyers brought class action suits
and filed against his abuse
His bank accounts drained
He found a new name
The battles in law were now moot

Enter the Wizard of Vause
Who felt this a noteworthy cause
He came back to the North
Newton's program came forth
Though he promised this time without flaws

But the wizard had promised in vain
For his ego he could not contain
Business plan in his hand
He had found a new land
Where the laws wouldn't be such a pain

To Alberta is where the 'doc' went
But to start, he could find not a cent
Still he sold his new plan
And the laws of the land
Enabled disguise of intent

On desperate parents he preyed
It is crazy the money he's made
Selling bogus elixirs
Bottled addiction fixers
About which the outcome he raves.

The parents must think early on
That something is awfully wrong
The bone that they sought
Had they known, they might not
Have purchased so quickly his song

To the devil they've handed a child
Who at some points, like many, get wild
With their guilt they can't cope
Nor believe it's a joke
Convinced that the trauma is mild

Their bank accounts drained
To the lawmen complain
But their worries would fall on deaf ears
For the solace they wished
Disappeared as they dished
Out the holiday dinners with cheer

The children locked tight
With barred windows all night
No shoes are they able to find
If they do try to run
They will find it's no fun
Zero club will become their new plight

Endless raps they endure
At least two sessions per
Day of the week with no school
Should they happen to say
The right things the right way
To their captors they just might be cool

Who would have thought
In the past we have fought
For human rights,
dignity, freedom.
This is all stripped away
Their lives horribly change
The day their poor child's put in treatment.

Those with critical thought
May think that they ought
To stand up and fight for their kids
But before they can know it
The words of this poet
Are ringing true: Look what they did!

They trusted this man
Put their lives in his hands
Believed he could make their child better
At the end of the day
Feeling not but dismay
They follow his words to the letter

After years they come out
When they aren't as devout
Demanding their questions are answered
But they're sent on their way
With a 'have a nice day'
And the AARC machine spreads forth like cancer
