Knife-Wielding Teen Enraged Over Cell Phone Punish

LAUREL, Del. (AP) ?Police say a teenager went after her parents with two kitchen knives after they took away her cell phone, forcing the frightened adults to lock themselves in a bedroom until officers arrived.

Delaware State Police Cpl. Bruce Harris says it took the officers about 10 minutes to persuade the 16-year-old to put down the large blades early Sunday morning. The girl was not identified.

Authorities were called to the home at about 3 a.m. Sunday. Police say the girl violently attacked the door while her parents hid in the bedroom.

Investigators say it started when the girl's father took her cell phone away while she used it in her bedroom. The father suspected the girl stole money from her mother's purse to buy more minutes on a prepaid phone card.

LOLS. Always blame the kids, right?

Nothing is mentioned in that article about the home life which made that family as dysfunctional as it apparently was. I doubt that incident "just happened" out of the blue. Maybe that girl learned her knife-wielding tactics from her parents?

ok i have to say it. what father could not disarm a 16 year old with a knife? what the hell is wrong with him?? if she was in her bed room im sure that its not right next to the kitchen so what happened in between the time the cell was taken and the girl got the knifes? be aware of  what is going on. how about sitting down and talking with the girl and explaining why the cell was taken instead of just taking it? why not talk through it so she understands instead of doing something that is going to upset her talk first than take the cell. dont take the cell without talking. some parents should not be parents and this is a great example.

Responding to the post... this is why troubled teen programs exist....

We all know there are troubled teens that is not the issue.  The issue is you don't take a child
and place them in an abusive facility to handle whatever dysfunction or in the case of this  teenager
psychological disorder she may have.  Poorly run, cookie cutter programs (all programs) that
charge insane amounts of money to abuse and neglect children.  They are not regulated enough
and can not be.  I wouldnt even leave my child in a hospital with the same degree of regulation
and oversight these programs have.

This child should have been arrested and maybe placed in local therapy with the guidance of her family.
In addition to their support and attendance.  Sending them off to some school where you have no idea
what they may experience.. could make her condition/issue much worse.

The reason for troubled teen programs exist...   not enough public education on how dangerous and
untrustworthy these programs are.  Its worse than calling up a nursing home 5 states away and expecting
whatever nursing you find on-line to properly take care of your parent.  Sure they lady on the phone may
tell you they will take great care of your parent.  Only to find out they were neglected, abused and treated without dignity.

Parents find help locally (where you can check hourly -- daily if you want), show love, compassion and sympathy.
