Jeeezz... Thayne wasn't just hawking Outback Expeditions on Dr. Phil; he was one of its co-founders, according to his bio on the Homeward Bound site:

Quote
Tim R. Thayne, Ph.D.
Founder/Executive Director

Tim was born and raised in the Uintah Basin of rural, Northeastern Utah. There, he learned from his father and grandfather the value of hard work and a job done right. As a young man Tim left his ranching life behind to pursue a passion in psychology. After earning a Bachelors Degree in Family Sciences and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, Tim attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he received his Ph.D.

At Virginia Tech, while working on his dissertation, Tim co-created an innovative program that helps large companies readjust and come to terms with change after experiencing the trauma of corporate restructuring. Called Solution-Focused Leadership, this program blends the best methods of marriage and family therapy with the larger organization models to develop healthy work environments as well as training executives and managers in effective leadership. The Solution-Focused Leadership initiative was a tremendous success and led to the co-founding of Thayne Leadership Academy, a corporate consulting firm. Blending methods to help people in transitional times not only planted the seeds for Tim’s next big move, it honed his professional skills in the critical areas of assessment, evaluation, personal coaching, mediation, communication training, and real-world effectiveness, i.e. getting results in high-pressure, time-sensitive periods.

Yearning to get back to his roots and to helping families, Tim teamed-up to co-found the five star wilderness program Outback Therapeutic Expeditions (formerly Walkabout). The program became a tremendous success and the rewards of helping troubled teens were immediate and apparent. However, after several years in the industry Tim was discouraged by stories of teens that had made great strides while away in wilderness as well as residential programs only to return home to environments that inadvertently did not support the positive changes made. With evidence mounting that illustrated the disturbing rates of behavior relapse after achieving success in wilderness or residential treatment, Tim began working on a practical, real-world solution to the problem.

What developed from Tim’s innovation was a process he called Family Transition Management™ (FTM™). Originally conceived as an aftercare solution, Tim quickly discovered that FTM worked for a number of family-centered, transitional, and developmental problems. Putting this revolutionary model into practice became Tim’s passion. In 2005 Tim left Outback to found Homeward Bound, an organization committed to helping families reunite, overcome personal challenges, and rediscover the natural support and joy of family.

Tim and his wife Roxanne have five wonderful children. He fills his spare moments with riding and training horses, playing with and coaching his children, dancing with his wife, golf, and cheering on his favorite sports teams.

Specific TTI influences amongst other Homeward Bound personnel are but vaguely referenced, e.g.: "provided therapy for at-risk adolescents," "spent the past two years working with at-risk youth in a Residential Treatment Center in Utah," "experience as an Admissions Counselor for a wilderness therapy program," etc. A perhaps notable exception is
    Brad Matheson, Director of Admissions:
"...entered the adolescent treatment industry as the Director of Marketing and Admissions for Outback Therapeutic Expeditions (formerly Walkabout). There Brad began his long professional relationship with Dr. Tim Thayne, and found a perfect vehicle to help motivate families with the same inspiration that motivated him.

Brad left Outback to help his friends and colleagues start Maple Lake Academy, a residential program for girls, before again joining forces with Tim at Homeward Bound in 2005."
Also, Homeward Bound Clinical Director Bryan Zitzman, like founder Tim Thayne, received his doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Perhaps this is where the two met.

BTW, fwiw...

• The kid on the cover of the parent brochure download on the Homeward Bound site is the same kid featured in one of the shots on the Family Front site.

• Homeward Bound and Family Front are described as "sister organizations" on the FF site (I guess the latter came later). Three personages form a core in both programs, with different stables of support personnel. The trio and their titles are (HWB / FF):

    Tim Thayne, Ph.D.: Founder/Executive Director / Founder & CEO
Bryan Zitzman, Ph.D., MFT: Clinical Director / Program Director
Kevin Randall, MFT: Transition Specialist / Clinical Director/Family Specialist
• Again, the Family Front site displays the same pattern of not noting specific TTI programs in personnel bios, even when it is obviously significant from a career standpoint, as in the case of Enrollment Director Jason T. Barlow:

    Quote
While attending college he took a leave of absence from the state and interned as a primary counselor at a private residential youth ranch located in southeastern Utah.

Jason has worked in the industry of therapeutic schools and programs since 1999. He has held various positions in his career including; Staff Director, Dean of Student Life, Dean of Admissions, Dean of Operations, Youth Resource Coordinator and Primary Counselor...

    • Support personnel, in case anyone recognizes any names:

      Homeward Bound:
Matthew C. Bartlett, M.Ed., Transition Specialist
        Roger McKenzie, M.C., Transition Specialist
        Brad Matheson, Director of Admissions
        Dawnie Williams, Case Manager
        Julie Bronson-Eldredge, Office Manager
Family Front:
          Kelly Olson, MS, Family Specialist
Michelle Lindsay MS, LPC, Family Specialist
Anthony T. Alonzo, MS, MFTI (UT), CFLE, Family Specialist
          Jason Carroll, Ph.D., Research Director
Jason T. Barlow, BS, Enrollment Director

Update:  Homeward Bound has formed a partnership of sorts with Educational Consulting Services.

ECS is a small EdCon group based in Syracuse, NY and Salt Lake City, UT. Three people are noted on its website. Founder is George Posner, former Hyde School parent. Judging from tracks left on the internet, I would say he has tended to favor Aspen programs (and Hyde, I'm sure).

Despite economic downturns, many families across the country are still in desperate need of help for their troubled teens, and a new partnership between placement and consulting firm, Education Consulting Services (ECS), and after-care experts, Homeward Bound, offers these families the assistance they need to achieve greater long-term success.

“We have been impressed, as many of our clients have been, with Homeward Bound’s professionalism and positive outcomes,” said Dr. George Posner, founder of ECS and director of eastern services. “Many of our families have credited their teen’s successful transition home to the aftercare support they received as a family from Homeward Bound. We believe our partnership will allow us to further improve the overall outcome for ECS families.”

Through this partnership, ECS will be able to custom-design comprehensive aftercare plans for its clients with the help of transition specialists at Homeward Bound. All ECS clients will receive a complimentary subscription to Homeward Bound’s online collaboration, communication, and parent education tool called The Family Bridge. Other available aftercare resources include in-home coaching, 24-hour professional support, and parenting seminars.

“The Family Bridge is truly innovative,” said Sarah Finney, a licensed marriage and family therapist and director of western services at ECS. “We’ve never seen anything like it and are excited to offer this feature to every family we work with.”

In addition to offering greater success through aftercare treatment and support, the partnership between ECS and Homeward Bound may also help to make treatment options more affordable for families.

“By including intensive in-home services and multi-systemic support as an option within the overall treatment plan, treatment lengths can be shortened,” said Dr. Tim Thayne, founder and CEO of Homeward Bound. “This makes the placement of troubled teens in out-of-home treatment settings more financially feasible to a larger number of families than ever before.”

For more information about Homeward Bound’s aftercare services or its partnership with ECS, contact Tim Thayne at Homeward Bound.

          About Homeward Bound:
Created in response to a need for more effective aftercare help for troubled teens, Homeward Bound is recognized as the industry leader in aftercare and transition management. The company’s innovative, evidence-based aftercare program helps teens and families bridge the gap between out-of-home treatment and the return to real life. For more than three years, Homeward Bound has assisted teens and their families throughout North America in navigating the transition process and achieving long-term success, unity, and happiness.

          About Educational Consultant Services:
Established in 1994, Educational Consulting Services (ECS) advises and guides families from across the U.S., Canada and abroad seeking solutions for children and other family members with emotional, behavioral, learning or substance-abuse issues that require intensive support and intervention. ECS has offices in New York and Utah and can be found on the web at gposner.com.

          Homeward Bound forms more partnerships

Part of this is old news, i.e., that Homeward Bound owns Family Front; we already figured that one out. Also, as reported last week (post just prior to this one), Homeward Bound formed a partnership with George Posner's Educational Consulting Services (Syracuse, NY and Salt Lake City, UT).

The new news (at least to me) is that Homeward Bound has also formed partnerships with Turnabout/Stillwater Academy (South Jordan, UT) and ANASAZI Foundation (Mesa, AZ), and are looking to form more such alliances with others in the industry.

Although mention of the "partnership" hasn't yet made it to the "aftercare" section of Turnabout/Stillwater Academy's website, I did find it in their "News" section. See
          HERE for more info.

According to Anasazi's website, their said partnership is actually old news from earlier this year (I guess I musta missed it; maybe that was one of the time periods that fornits was off-line this year). See HERE for rectification of that prior omission.

I think this is a trend that we'll see more of as the economy continues to worsen: organizations involved in the troubled teen industry will diversify (broadening the scope of services they provide), consolidate (trim off locations/programs which are less lucrative), and form partnerships/alliances with other organizations in the industry in an attempt to remain viable/survive.

Tim Thayne Ph.D., founder of Homeward Bound, which has been offering in-home aftercare services for four years, announced an expansion of their services by creating Family Front, "a wholly owned subsidiary of Homeward Bound." The stated purpose of Family Front is "to support families earlier in the process… to provide an effective alternative to a much more costly and disruptive out-of-home placement."

To better provide more treatment options at more affordable prices, Homeward Bound and Family Front are looking to develop "partnerships" with educational consultants and program providers. According to their web site http://www.homewardbound.net [partnerships] have been developed with Educational Consultant George Posner's Educational Consulting Services, New York and Utah, http://www.gposner.com, Turnabout/Stillwater Academy, Salt Lake City, 866-359-4600 and ANASAZI foundation, 800-678-3445, http://www.anasazi.org.
