Incidentally - I read the posts in this thread (meaning, I may not be replying to the one I'm mentioning), but "Anonymous" is probably not a *chosen* username, but someone who chooses to remain anonymous... a *default* username, if you will. Does that make sense, or am I totally off base? :question:

WWASP is the acronym for World Wide Association of Specialty Programs.

Back in the day, WASP stood for White Anglo Saxon Protestant...so it is a curious name for an organization.

Curious in the way our government has labelled protection in America as HOMELAND SECURITY...can we be in more denial?

The Citizens Commission for Human Rights is a front group for the Church of Scientology(TM). Ironically I have two of their books and they are two of the best accounts of I have of abuse in the psychiatry profession. And there has been plenty of abuse there including scams to treat kids for drug issues. However, one must put this into perspective. L. Ron Hubbard is one of the biggest frauds and liars this world has ever known. He wrote the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health and tried to pawn it off as a sort of poor man's alternative to psychoanalysis. Naturally he was snubbed by the medical profession. His PhD was only a pretend PhD. They ran him out of New Jersey for practicing medicne without a license. The psychiatrists snubbed the madman, the madman declared war on psychiatry.

Still the children's deaths are compelling and need to be recognized. Just be cautious and consider the source.

I personally prefer to take each individual on their own merits. I either appreciate a person's words and actions, or not. Their persuation doesn't matter. What they are saying and doing does. And if their words match their deeds, so much the better.

For whatever reason L Ron took up a crusade against psychiatry, it's one that needed to be led, imho. If the devil himself were leading this crusade, I would support him/her.

Just as...I don't support PURE, but I can certainly can get behind their efforts to bring down WWASP. I would collaborate with them in a heartbeat, if I could be of assistance.

CCHR has been an invaluable resource for many families who lost loved ones to the barbaric insanity perpetrated by those who profess to be sane, sane enough to determine that anyone else who crosses their path is crazy. CCHR's efforts have brought about some very valuable laws protecting human rights. I have no doubt that they will be effective in this effort, united or independently, behind the scenes or out front.

The problem with this idea is that PURE will not be able to bring down WWASP. Collaborating with PURE is not the way to fight this battle. Separating from PURE is what it will take. You can not bring down a program that exploits families by hooking up with another program that does exactly the same thing.

It is hypocritical.

Pure is an educational consultant group, mainly consisting of one mother (Sue Scheff) whose daughter was hurt by wwasp.

She only refers to programs that give her fees per referral.

She still believes that much of the industry has something positive to offer but she has no better criteria for selecting her preferred programs than any other consultant. She also refers to escort agencies.

Now my thoughts:

Sue just never connected the dots that these programs are bad in general and WWASP is just among the worst, but probably not the worst of all.

As to escort agencies, several mental health organizations have come out strongly opposed to escorts, because even if all things are done professionally, the reality is that it is kidnapping and in a very grey area legally in many states, and in some illegal. If that were not enough all evidence shows that even children who are kidnapped by their own parents (like during custody battles) or tricked by their parents into being dropped off at these programs the feelings of betrayal are profound and seldom fade.

PURE was started by a former mom who had her daughter at a WWASP school and was very happy with the results until she decided to start a company that refers students to other schools and programs. When WWASP refused to pay her for admissions (they don't pay educational consultants) she and her co-workers began posting negative comments. Her whole web site is set up to bash wwasp. She and her multiple personalities have been using other parents now to band together against wwasp. You may want to join them??

Read the court document. It's not old news,its a court document. It gives a clear picture of what they are still doing on this board and others.
