Pathway Family Center awarded accreditation
MILFORD - CARF, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, International announced that Pathway Family Center has been accredited for a period of three years for its outpatient treatment for alcohol and other drugs/addictions (children and adolescents) and therapeutic communities for integrated alcohol and other drugs/mental health (children and adolescents) programs. The latest accreditation is the first consecutive three-year accreditation the international accrediting body has awarded to Pathway Family Center. CARF establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of programs and services.

This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the Pathway Family Center's substantial conformance to the CARF standards. Receiving a three-year accreditation, Pathway Family Center completed a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable and accountable.

CARF states "Pathway Family Center's practice of treating the family issues surrounding adolescent substance abuse concurrently with the adolescent, with corresponding graduating levels of goal achievement and progress for the parents, culminates in the provision of a valuable service component. This is an exemplary practice of family inclusion, participation, production and accomplishment."

Pathway Family Center is a nonprofit substance abuse treatment center for adolescents. Pathway provides a complete continuum of care including: Drug screening, substance abuse assessment and referral, outpatient services and a unique long-term treatment program. Pathway is a family-centered facility that focuses on teaching coping strategies, life skills and strengthening both individual and family relationships. A staff of professionals are experts in substance abuse and behavioral problems. Pathway Family Center has licensed locations in Michigan, Indiana, Northwest Indiana and Ohio, and has been servicing adolescents and their families since 1993. For additional information, contact Summer Deepe 575-7300 or call our 24-hour parent helpline at 800-261-4605.

Could you tell us some more about the history behind the relicensing issue?

well, sure, but what else is there to tell? Meaning... this program has to be accredited to better fool the parents into thinking its archaic treatment modality is the next best thing to sliced bread. It got its accreditation originally from COA, they dropped them, so they went with CARF, which was just an extension of the accreditation that KHK had B4 PFC formally covered their butt and 'acquired' KHK. A similar situation happened when ODADAS passed on the actual state licensure of KHK. PFC simply filled out an application for certification and ODADAS said "POOF! You're certified". PFC and ODADAS basically sidestepped the law at that point. If you research the codes in Ohio, you'll see that if a program changes ownership, it forfeits the current certification. Considering that PFC was from out of state and is "supposed to be" a completely different program, well, see? It's all bullshit no matter how you drink it,
Seriously though, it is bullshit plain and simple. I'll bet that PFC/KHK gets its recertification as a licensed facility in January from ODADAS, regardless of the piles of complaints and proof that they are using the STRAIGHT, Inc. treatment model. The government apparently approves of this modality and there's very little people can do about it until a kid actually dies inside the warehouse or host home. Grim prospect, eh?
