Running Springs Fire
« on: October 24, 2007, 08:03:04 AM »
see http://rimoftheworld.net/ for the latest information.

On Tuesday evening the Slide Fire advanced through much of the Rowco neighborhood of Running Springs, as well as Fredalba and Smiley Park. The fire reached as far east as Mount R and westward to between Heaps Peak and Nob Hill. Reports of structures lost poured into dispatchers as strained resources were rendered helpless.

A mandatory evacuation remains in effect from Snow Valley to Crestline. Valley of Enchantment and Cedarpines Park remain under a voluntary evacuation. Highways 18, 330, 173, and 138 are closed west of Big Bear Dam to all non-emergency traffic, preventing residents who were caught off the mountain during the fire from returning.

I don't know how to make this a link, but cut and paste and you'll see how the old RS cedu campus is being used in the fire:

So the Rabbi squad is using CEDU RS as a retreat?

If so, I love the fact that they've named it the  "Panikoff Center of Love and Kindness"

Walking into the living room for the first time seeing everyone smooshing.....I'd call that a center of panic (of love and kindness).

I sure as shit don't roll on shabus

CEDU on google maps.

3500 Seymour Rd. Running Springs, Ca.

Chabad  of Running Springs

Although it looks really different here than it did a few days ago, right when the fires started to get close. In the first one I saw, all of the structures were clearly visible, and these aren't. However, based on the news, they haven't lost any property as of yet, so maybe it's the time of day or something.

i think they only update those google sat maps 1 or 2 times a year. it's unlikely they took any before / after of RS this week.

it looks like it is owned by the chabat organization, at least during the summer time. on their website they were saying the helicopters were using the RS swimming pool as a water source. I think RS was highly protected as it was/is a base of firefighting operations

I watched the video.    Very nicely done, and not cheap to produce.    I was a bit weirded out by the girls all wearing skirts.  At least the girls were learning Hebrew.  Not exactly, the secular camp I'd sen d my child too.   Ethical Culture or workman's circle is much more my speed.

I don\'t look at myself in the mirror because I\'m a narcissist, I simply like to watch myself exist...
