Well, since so many people complained about the locked windows, and ORS watches them now, they probably aren't locked anymore, and I heard through the grapevine that night staff are completely different as far as their duties now, so I am thinking that they weren't being watched very closely at all anymore. Were these medications the staff members personal meds? Was the staff member a teacher or one of the staff that would have a reason to have meds, and how did the kids know they were in that particular room? It does seem like a procedure wasn't followed correctly as far as access to meds, but, on the other hand, where theres a will theres a way, some of these kids have drug issues when they come in so they will do anything to get their hands on some if they figure out a way, unfortunately. Im glad none of them were seriously injured.

I am dismayed and genuinely disappointed that HLA has managed to remain in business despite all the recent legal proceedings against the place. It seemed that it would really have to close since so many of the students and staff left in droves. Len Buccellato is an egomaniac with a Napoleon complex - determined to build a "therapeutic evil empire!"
Since my child left HLA, I have discovered many more truly therapeutic programs that I wish we had known about. Like all parents, we wanted an environment that seemed as "normal" as possible but I realize now that school should have been put aside in favor of intense treatment.
The academics are hit and miss at HLA - not all teachers are created equal there and when you have 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders lumped together in one class, it's unrealistic to expect the same standards from all of them.
I don't want to rant and rave anymore about HLA since it's all been said before. Len still has bad karma - he created it and it will come around to him one day. I feelsorry for the parents who have to learn the hard way, like we all did.

Amen to what you said. We are parents of a recent kid at HLA and we found out the hard way also after spending a fortune that HLA is a joke and Len B. is a corrupt liar and so is Joe Stapp. Both of them have the Napolean complex for sure!

it is true about the nightstaff's duties being a lot different. they hired a company that provides security people instead of hiring them themselves, like they did when i first got there. And there are all these policies about interacting with the nighstaff. i used to like talking to the old nightstaff when i couldnt sleep at night and some of them were really chill. no one wanted to piss them off because they were so nice. well, some of them were...not all of them. the new ones were so cold and robotic.

Wonder how many students will graduate from HLA this month in December 2007? How many students will be left after that?
