I'm not well read on this subject but here's my gut reaction to ADD.

Environmental Cause of ADD
1. Let's assume that, in the last 25 years, the # of kids with this condition is legitametely growing by leaps and bounds -I believe it's symptomatic of our robotic, pathetic, hyper-consumptive culture/lifestyle.

Why?
1st consider the landscape

a. Parents aren't around. They're too busy working. We're all workerbees slaves to corporate america. We sit in our cubicles and rot away. We trade our souls by working our asses off so that the CEO's can have a disgusting amount of wealth.

b. The pace at which Western Societies moves is mindnumbing. The 5,000 mph pace at which we live isn't healthy. We are cognizant animals. Animals don't belong entombed in cement and plastic. We're organic matter. We're so far removed from biological time it seems absurd to even consider the the concept of 'biological time'.

Regardless of the legitimacy of the ADD condition/diagnosis. Let's consider the PP.

a. Pharmeceutical Push. Have you ever had the opportunity to eat lunch at a major pharmeceutical employee cafeteria? It's 5 star and either free or highly subsidized. I visited Merk's headquarters for a business meeting and hadnthe opportunity to eat at their cafeteria. Do you think there's any correlation between the insane profit margins in the pharmeceutical industry (as evident in stock prices and employee benefits) and the increased hyper-diagnosis of ADD (and any other condition for that matter)????  They are drug dealers in suits and ties. I also dated a girl who was a pharmeceutical sales rep. For 1 year I got to see 1st hand the amount of money these pharmeceutical companies 'throw' at doctors to get them to 'move' their product. It was carte blanch pimping. Truly disgusting.

I was listening to Chris Rock Tues night...
What a rant on pharm...   'legal' drugs, pushers, symptoms...

Couldn't agree more, 'Fugitive.  I have firsthand life-experience.

dishdutyfugitive:
What kind of first hand experience?

SRJ:
I have it.
