Diagnosed bipolar at age 3 and put on a cocktail of drugs administered by a mother with some serious problems of her own.

While not opposed to the drugging of adults who are able to give their own consent or if not,  have decisions made for them by a responsible family member or caregiver, it is shocking how many toddlers and pre-schoolers are being diagnosed with disorders warranting the use of heavy-duty psychotropics.  

Anybody else see the interview?  The parents have been charged with murder.  Apparently the other children were also being medicated and I believe, may have been removed from the home by DSS.

Definitly a tragic situation all the way around.

The parents were bad news all the way around. They couldnt make a movie out of this because no one would ever believe this could happen:

We should all be outraged that antipsychotic drug prescriptions are increasing so for children--normal children [NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jun 05 2006]. The prescription of antipsychotic medications for children and adolescents in the US increased nearly 6-fold between 1993 and 2002, according to survey results. [Also, Arch Gen Psychiatry 2006;63:679-685]. Eighteen percent (think of it--18.0 %) of visits to psychiatrists by young people resulted in their being prescribed an antipsychotic medication/poison.

This is largely due to the efforts of Joseph Biederman and colleagues at Harvard. Approximately 90% of antipsychotics prescribed were for the second-generation, atypical, drugs -- clozapine, risperidone, olanzapine, and quetiapine. What's more, none of these drugs are approved for treating adolescents or children. They were prescribed primarily for disruptive behavior disorders (37.8%)-- ADHD, conduct disorder and oppositional defiant disorder-none actual diseases; mood disorders (31.8%)-none actual diseases; 14.2% for psychotic disorders-none actual diseases, and pervasive developmental disorders or mental retardation (17.3%). Angel T. had a dreaded DBD--disruptive behavior disorder...her first non-diseased--that which got her court-order to psychiatry. The "bipolar" diagnosis came later as did the usual handful of psychiatric diagnoses--none of them an actual disease....

No doubt there are increasing numbers of pregnant women on these drugs today. I can imagine their embyos/fetuses will be damaged resulting in retarded, globally brain damaged children with tell-tale, ever-after tardive dyskinesias (extra-pyramidal signs--EPS). I can imagine some developing just from the drinking of anti-psychotic tainted breast milk. I am sure their is an epidemic of Parkinsons diseases developing as we speak among the children of all ages of the nation, and of tardive dyskinesias as well. We all know the fate of Rebecca Riley. As much as these "perps" try to deflect blame, all of them, including Rebecca's psychiatrist from Tufts who went to medical school just as did I and Dr. Biederman did and learned just as we all did what normal is and what abnormality-disease is and how to tell the difference. She knows she had adduced no physical signs or abnormalities in Rebecca before really inducing such with her psychiatric poisons, she knows and should not be allowed to skate free, no matter how heinous the cheerleading roll of the good Dr. Biederman and his "team"at Harvard and the vaunted MGH.

Why not make a movie? Excellent case to make here that the solution for poor parenting skills is not to drug the children. 'Profit before people' has steered the industry toward drugging rather than teaching/ counseling. I think it's a classic example of how poor families are worked by the system, reaping fabulous rewards for Big Pharm, paid by taxpayers.

By the way, Biederman defended the industry in the 60 Minutes piece.

Biederman, et al, researchers long-time ties to Novartis and CHADD, compared 56 medicated and 19 (nineteen) non-medicated ADHD subjects, and concluded (1) that the never-validated "disease" ADHD was a risk factor for substance use disorder (SUD) in adolescence, and (2) that Ritalin/amphetamine treatment?treatment with substances of addiction--was associated with an 85% reduction in risk for SUD in ADHD youth. With this single, small, contrived, study, Biederman, et al, Muniz and Novartis claimed to negate a half-century of addiction/pharmacological literature on Ritalin/methylphenidate. Despite petitions by Ciba/Novartis and CHADD, the DEA and INCB continue, as the evidence demands, to classify Ritalin as a Schedule II, controlled substance. The War of Drugs, coupled with the easy availability of Psych/Pain meds, has created a thriving black market for rx drugs.

IMO, it's already started. Look at the rise in autism. People are quick to blame mercury in the vaccines, but my friend's kid is autistic, and his vaccines were the newer kind that did not contain any mercury at all.

Although any smart OBGYN is going to tell the mother not to take any kind of anti-depressant, benzodiasapine or mood stabilizer while she is with child. That's common knowledge. I know that two of my friends who have given birth were told by their doctors to go off their meds when they were pregnant.

Anyone diagnosing a three year old with bipolar needs to have their license to be a doctor revoked. They are not drug dealers, they are drug pushers.
You know those signs in front of schools that say drug dealers or kids with drugs withing 1000 feet are subject to heavier penalties, are they just there for comedic relief?
